Anyone know anything about blowers for 550's?
« on: March 21, 2010, 10:37:27 AM »
Hey all,

I'm doing a gentlemans motor build on my spare motor, but really want to do a blower project as well.  I have the capabilities to machine and physically make the blower, I just lack the knowledge to design it.  Thats why I'm currently going to school.

that being said, anyone out there have ANY information on blowers for cb550's?

Thanks in advanced.

PS.  I've been gone from these boards for a LONG time.  Was here two years ago to build my first 550.  Which I am currently getting back in shape for spring again!! I'll be back for a while I hope lol

 Check out Fageol Superchargers,

any length you want.. I think it would be easy to build the housing if you had the rotors & gears..

This would work fine for a 550 cc engine. You can turn drive CW or CCW. I'm using the bigger 500 in my 750. Very nicely built little superchargers.

Added note; If you join up with  "Japanauction" and find a trusty Japanese broker, you can pick these little superchargers up real cheap!

That little blower wouldn't work. It's not designed for high rpm. Also there's no supply of different length snout drives for any custom designed applications. Fageol is the only way to go. Very nice design, and has drive lengths from 2 1/2 inches to almost 8 inches.
 Here's the website..........http://www.fageolsuperchargers.com/    ;D     Here's a pic...........

Blue71turbo: Have you heard anyone having bad results with the little "Aisen" blowers? I've not that much experiance in this area, but lots of people are using these blowers in go-carts, sand rails etc. The maximum continuous RPM for these blowers is 16,000 with ocausional 18,000 RPM limits. With a SOHC you should be safe to run the blower at crankshaft RPM (1:1). Even with a 1.5:1 you are still within the blowers design. At 2:1 you are pushing the limits. All there is inside these blowers are 2 lobed rotors, 2 gears, 4 bearings and some seals...not much to go wrong!
I'm using the AMR 500 Aisen blower on my fuel injected 750. I'm running 1:1 ratio which should give me about 5lbs. of boost. I sure hope this blower "hangs in"? Let me know of people who have had bad results with this blower.

You might want to pick this guy's brain, he's done some impressive stuff on injected sportbikes.  He's done just about all of his own machining for specific components save for the supercharger.
Off the top of my head, if you have the machining skills, I'd say take an off the shelf s/c that would fit your needs and make it fit.
