custom license plate holder ideas anyone?
« on: January 18, 2006, 06:10:01 PM »
So I'm looking for ideas for a license plate holder with no light for my 75 400/4 cafe. I just need a place for the damn plate. I made a custom fiberglass solo seat and it's finally done and on the bike!!! (picts soon), but I can't ride the thing until I attach a plate somehow. There's not much room under the seat, the plate would have to be practically horizontal which could be fine, or the side mount idea. anyone make there own mounts? picts? thanks.

hmmm that's seems easy enough. just mount to the bottom shock mount, I'll look into that. It's unbelievable what some of these places want to charge for a damn license plate holder. I saw one in dennis kirk for $650!!! haaaa. it was in the harley section. do people really have that much disposable income? wish I did.

Here's what I did on my CB. Used the left side pass. peg hole , and drilled another
above it in the frame. Used some cheap " L" brackets from the Depot, and I was done.
Simple, Cheap, and works....

How about framing it on the back of your riding jacket? 8)

Actually their is a guy who lives somewhere around my house (I see him all the time) , that has a
vintage cafe of some make, and he has his plate drywall screwed to the back of his chunky blue
"oldschool" helmet.... ;D

Not sure how he doesn't get pulled over....

That's the best one I've seen so far..............  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

...as i said, I'm running that one on my chop and am pleased with it.  Alot of the side mount plate holders like this are the real thick billet stuff that is a little harder to mount (and heavy).  This is heavy enough gauge that its durable, but thin enough so its easy to mount.

That'd be nice but looking for a way without the light. I saw one on a harley cafe that was perfect but I can't find one similar. it was a side mount, curved slightly, and went on the left side and covered over the chain. didnt stick out and look awkward. At this point I may just duct tape it to my jacket. I just wanna ride my bike with the new seat and this little thing is preventing me!!! damn license plates. who needs em..
