So now that I have an early sandcast I'd let to get a set of Lotus Root exhausts.  Yamiya made a batch for some Sandcast Only Owner's Club (SOOC) members last year on request (otherwise they're not available).  If we can get enough people interested we may be able to get them to do another batch.  If your VIN is 4148 or less they would be correct.  I obviously posted on the SOOC too but I know there's a few sandy guys here that I might catch.
Thanks,
Mark

Is that the unnumbered pipes, or are they between unnumbered and the other HM300's?

They're actually before the "no number" pipes but they are also unnumbered.  They're correct for VIN's 1-4148.  There's a lot of interesting info about them on the SOOC site.

I no longer have a need, when I had a sandcast I found a set of unnumbered pipes, they had huge baffles. The bike I put them with had a serial number under 1000.

How long did they use unnumbered pipes?

According to the SOOC site, the no number pipes were used on all the sandcasts.  I'm not sure when they switched into the early diecasts.

Well, my motor is #260. It would be interesting so see what the end cost would be. If it's more than  ;D but less than  :o or  :'( I could be interested.

Yamiya is currently selling the no number pipes for $1825.  They will certainly be more than that.

Just in case there's a sandcast guy here that doesn't visit the SOOC site.  There are committments from members for 10 sets of Lotus Roots.  Here is a partial description from Steve Swan from the SOOC of the differences between LR and No Number pipes:

The welded seams are 5mm instead of 7mm.

The mufflers have no internal baffling.

The all steel baffle (exhaust diffuser) is significantly larger, will not interchange with the "last" type diffuser.  In other words, the baffles in later mufflers will not fit early mufflers.

The "first" type (Lotus Root) exhaust, with baffle removed, are essentially racing megaphones.  The exhaust note with baffle installed is notably deeper.

Of course, there are no stampings on the mufflers and no relief in the exhaust pipes

So if you have an early sandcast and are interested in a set of these, please let me know.

A group of us on the SOOC site were succesful in getting Yamiya to make Lotus Roots!  We committed to 17 sets.  The good news is that Yamiya made an extra ten sets!  It is very likely that they won't make any more.  If you want a set, here's your chance.  This is probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  They cost us 250,000 JPY and the shipping to the USA was 26,250 JPY (approx. 3228 USD total at today's rates).  That includes pipes and baffles.  I don't know if those prices will be the same and the shipping elsewhere will probably vary.  If you want a set (or more) contact Katsuya Oe at order@yamiya750.com.  Be patient, it may take a day or two for a reply.  By the way, they are beautiful!!

Many, many thanks to Steve Swan for handling the majority of the communication with Yamiya.  Without his efforts, this probably wouldn't have been possible.

Gosh that's a lot of money for a repro set of pipes!  Are they even stainless?  I understand the cost for setting up shop so to speak is expensive, but wowsers.  They should be top notch.

Not stainless but chrome-plated unobtainium. :D  And yes, they are top notch.  I realize they're not for everyone but if you have a 4148 or less sandcast that you want right, there's not many options for good exhaust pipes.

Mark.....I ran across this thread and had to run to my shed with a 'mm' tape!  I have a set of unstamped, no number pipes hanging and the muffler seams measure 5 mm as opposed to 7mm on my HM341 pipes.  I don't have a sandcast motor so...........I may have some early pipes for sale.  Bad news first, #1 pipe muffler is comletely rusted off of the header. #2 pipe has rust near the joint but the pipe is solid.  #3 and #4 appear to be in good shape. No baffles or shields.

A cb750 'sandcast' model is a 1969-only model year.

According to the www.cb750sandcastonly.com website, the earliest 'sandcast' cb750s had an engine # between CB750 1000001 to CB750 1007414.

The 'sandcast' name derives from the manufacturing method to build some of the bike's parts, such as the engine cases and some other bits.

I'm no authority, but I think the cost of the pipes is minor, I have seen a sandcast sell for over $40,000 on ebay a few months back.  Pretty rare bike I guess.

It's starting to cool off here but its been pretty nice since the heavy rains we had last week.  And as Hondawggie recommended, check out the www.cb750sandcastonly.com site and you'll learn a lot of interesting stuff about the first CB750's.
