Can anyone tell this make and model?
« on: March 30, 2010, 05:11:33 AM »
I am looking to buy this bike, but all the seller was only able to send me was this blurry photo. Can anyone tell the year and model. He said it was a 77 cb550f, but the tank would tell me otherwise. Any info would be appreciated before I make a deal. By the way, what would you offer. He says it runs and needs a carb cleaning.

Seat and side panel covers seems to be a 1977 to me. Tank is repainted and hadlebars stops me from looking at the tank lid which tells us more. Maybe a early tank to a leter bike?

Looks like a Cb750k tank to me, but I'm no specialist. It hard to tell from the picture. The rest of the bike could be what he says it is, but the shape of the tank looks 750'ish.

Looks nothing like my 75' 550F. Is a 550 tho'. Maybe the Fs changed a whole bunch from 75'-77'. Mine has a door hiding the gas cap and that seat looks way big. BTW my bike has "550F" in the vin. Hope this helps.

Engine looks to vertical to be a 750 to me.   Very crappy pic from someone wanting to sell it.

The tank has a cap on top, not the lid and cover that I see on most f models.

He confirmed that it is indeed a 550k model. But what year? He doesn't know. That color stock for any year was it?

Have him tell you the engine and frame neck serial numbers, that will tell you what he has.

It is a 550K. What year? Definitely not a 1976. See my avatar for the 76 blue.
I know that they did have different color blues for years before and after 76.
Maybe it's what he said it is.....a 1977?
Price wise. I think they are in the blue book for about $400.00.
Price goes up or down depending on condition.
I just got the brown 1976 550K, also in avatar, for free.
It also needed carb work, lots of cleanup and the exhaust is shot. 6,500 miles.

Take a look at WEBSITE from the menu line at the top of the forum, go to CB550, the bottom of the page and select Model Guide.  Get the neck numbers from the seller and compare to the listed years.

The plastic chain guard says K model.
The shape of the rear of the seat says 77K model, as does the rear grab rail and TS mount.
The lack of accordian boots on the forks say 77-78 model.

The tank shape says K model prior to 77.  The color is of no stock sample I've ever seen.
The side cover is K model.

Rear shock is 77-78 550 style.
The rear peg mount loop says 77-78 K model  ( or 75-77 F model)

Advisory lights between gauges say 77-78 K or 75-77F model.
Single front fender stay says 77-78 model year.

Not enough detail for further ID.  Probably a 77K with parts robbed from other models.
