750 clutch will not disengage
« on: March 30, 2010, 09:01:39 AM »
New rebuild. Old serviceable Honda plates, Barnet HD springs in K5 basket with K5 motor. I bolted on the clutch cover, set up the lever per manual, but I cannot get the clutch to disengage. The action at the lever feels right, but the motor remains stubbornly in gear. The plates were soaked in oil for a day or two prior to installation, but the motor has sat a few months since then. Could this mean the plates are stuck together? I am going to tear into the basket now to double check everything; is there anything I should look for? I am sure the plates are oriented to the basket correctly and the washer is installed properly. I do not know what else to check.

I forgot to add that I am using a K6 clutch center. The K5 and K6 have different part numbers. Could this be my problem?

I have had my stock K1 clutch stick after sitting for an extended period. You might try putting it in gear, with the clutch lever pulled in, and rock the bike back and forth and see if it breaks loose. I've also had it happen on other bikes with wet clutches after sitting...
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

I just took the whole thing apart and put it back together. Everything looked good and the plates were not stuck together.
Still no clutch though.
