Amazing Cat Journey...
« on: April 10, 2010, 05:49:36 PM »
Just read this today.
a Lynx was live-trapped near here (Kamloops BC, west of the Rockies), 7 yrs ago, they figured it was 2 yrs old. They transplanted it, near Silverton Colorado.

From the tracking info or tag, they figured it had a mate and they had a few offspring, then it disappeared.

Recently a trapper  in Alberta caught a tagged Lynx in a snare. This was north of Banff Alberta..

Seems the cat had travelled close to 1200 miles, was getting near where it had started from.. :o.. less than 300 miles but was still on the east side of the Rockies..

 Simply amazing..

In Lake Superior there is a group of islands called the Apostle islands.  There are bears on the islands and at Stockton Island one became a problem.  He would hassle the boats at the dock and even climb aboard looking for a meal.  He was trapped and relocated to the mainland about 50 miles away.  Two weeks later he was back on Stockton Island.  This island is about 10 miles offshore but there are other islands so by swimming from one to the other he never had to swim more than a few miles at a time. :)
