Decal Question
« on: April 15, 2010, 05:01:37 am »
While looking at paint options I also checked out decal options. Is the 750 tank longer or wider than the 500 tank?
I'm looking at going with something non-original for the 500 but still a Honda color and stripe set.

I'm not looking at swapping tanks. I was wondering if a decal set cut for a 750 tank would work on a 500 tank. What are the outer dimensions? Width, length, etc....
For example: Could I use any of these decal sets on my 500 tank?

(Oops, that link takes you back to page one. Look at the 750 decals on page 7.)

I got new stripes for my 750K1 from Reproduction Decals. What they initially sent me did not match what I had so they told me they could make a decal from my tracing, which is what happened. If you want something special, give them a call and see what they can/will do.
The painter also said he could paint any kind of stripe that I wanted, and also said if he ever did it again he might prefer that method.

I just noticed that Z1 has the stripes I'm interested in that fit a CB450....think they'd come closer to matching my CB500 tank?

I just repainted tank and opted to use pinstripe tape rather than a decal. It looks good! It only took a couple tries to figure out how to make a smooth curve, which can be a little challenging with the the 1/2" wide tape. Sweeping curves are easy though. And by the way, I have plenty of left over 1/2" wide gold, which isn't that easy to find. Let me know and we can work something out. The white stripes can be had at any chain automotive outlet. Some would say a decal will hold up longer. I'd say replacing pinstripe tape is a heck of a lot easier than a decal and a lot less expensive. Here's are my results:

Awesome stripe job, did you paint yourself and is that a 550 in your avatar?

Is that flake Sunrise orange or just soimething similar, did you buy the paint as a kit? I am looking at a 550 but am having trouble find an Orange one and would be interested in having one painted to match if I can't find anything else. And I have NO painting skills.
