Just wondering how most people define Squid.

I always took it to be short for Squirrely Kid. Typically early twenties, baggy shorts, sleeveless T shirt, enough piercings to stock a small tackle box, perched atop a fully thrashed neckid sport bike., or in full leathers, hanging off a tricked out crotch rocket eager to give you that "I'm faster than you cause I do Track days" sneer.

On the other hand, I have a friend that used to road race, back in the '80s who claims the term stems from new riders on the track. "Knees and elbows stickin out all over the place, they looked like a squid from behind."

So, if you have another variation, let's hear it.

Well, I refer to Navy as Seamen...

Squid is from Crotch rocket terms and well, I've been one of those guys before.

tentacled, usually white to greyish in color. some people actually LIKE the taste of the things

actually squid brings a young, inexperienced rider, usually on a sportbike with enough power to change the weather

Arrogance and a painful lack of any sort of relevant knowledge

Everyday I get the pleasure of dealing with these kind of people. They dont have to be young either. I get to witness people who have never had a bike before walk into a dealership, 20 or 45, say they "I dont want a pussy ass 600 and want something with a little more power" have to have someone show them how to start it. How to ride it so then they ride off with out a helmet with their legs out in first gear as their wife and 4 kids watch. Couple of times a month they bin it before they leave the property.

Plenty of them around here near Detroit. Had one go wizzing past me on I-75 last year I was doing somewhere around 85~90 Mph in my firebird and he flew past me one wheeling it like I was standing still wearing sandels a t-shirt and shorts.... His cool friends were right behind him in their pimped out civic with the 10ft rear wing and enough blue neons to light up our strech of the freeway

Trying to find a non wrecked sport bike front end is like trying to find a non wrecked sport car front end...

Squid... a reference to a bike that an armature rider (usually 10' tall bulletproof 18-22 year old) owns...

Hey I know that guy I used to work with him. He turned 19 and bought a bright yellow kawi600 with matching "jumpsuit"... we all litterally took bets on how long it would be till he wiped it out. Lasted 3 months. So after he messed himself and the bike up he decided to buy a cbr900.... Wonder if he is still alive.

That is usually how it happens. They buy a bike powerful enough to make them a smear on the freeway, wreck it, then buy an even more powerful bike.

As it pertains to motorcyclists, origin (AFAIK) SoCal navy yards, squids would likely buy the highhorsepower sportbikes and rode them irresponsibly. This moniker then flowed away from the Navy into general use for show off motorcyclists.

I got the above combination explanation from many who were in the Navy in SoCal.

More from another Militarty slang site: "squid/squiddly
(US) A US Navy sailor. Often used with derogatory intent. Inspired naming of the cartoon character Squiddly Diddly, a squid in a sailor suit."
