Petcock question: Pickup tube broken
« on: April 20, 2010, 07:58:20 AM »
I went through my petcocks today and ended up with one good, working petcock. The only problem is that the pickup tube is broken off.  Essentially, that means I'm on reserve all the time.
Give me some ideas on what I can do to repair this. There's a small nub of the pick up tube left. I was thinking about going to the hardware store and finding some copper or brass tubing that I could press or braze on to the nub. But does it have to be metal? Would some type of plastic or rubber tube stand up to the gas?
Also, is there supposed to be a sock filter inside the tank? The mesh filter in the petcock is clean and in good shape.
