That all sounds manageable! By the way, anyone know a good tactic for removing the HONDA lettering on the side of the tank, while keeping it in-tact?

Screw driver and gentle prying. Move along the emblem, top and bottom. Once you can get a grip with your hands wriggle it out.

Awesome! Because, they're in a bit of rough shape, so I thought it would be cool to paint the letters black with a silver outline, that way they also match the tank a bit better!! Then, when I'm ready to put them back on, will they pretty much just snap in to place?? Or, will I have to bond them back to the tank somehow?

mine had little rubber grommets/orings on the emblems. they would stay in place themselves. it was even missing a couple and still stayed in place

Let me know how you like em. I like the look, but a lot of people don't like the riding position.

Oh my god!!! Got the clubmans today, and couldn't have expected better!! Even without the rear set riding conversion, I'm going to love these bad boys, and, ties the bike together!!!  Posting pix tomorrow morning. And I'm hoping tomorrow my carbs are complete, and I get my other supplies in.

By the looks of your exhaust & front fender, I would say you have a 550K.

OKAY, so, carbs are totally done. I took them home, got a clean tank and clean fuel line, and hooked them up, and THEY HELD FUEL!! W00T!!! So, I tried to start my beast, and found that my electrical system still isn't hooked up well enough. To be honest, I'm not sure I can hook it up well enough with just me or my friend, the only guy I know who can do it, lives over 4 hours away, so I need everyones help!!!!! Please tell me if you guys know where I can get electrical done... Can I take it to a Honda dealership?!? are there specialty places for this sort of thing??!?! I'm at a brick wall :(

I fully think that if I can get my electrical to all work well again, I can get this bike running, no prob.

i would just tackle it yourself... you'll be glad you did. get a wiring diagram (they're on the website). and just remember this is 12v DC. most of it is pretty basic. just think power to ground. you can always ask on here.
--as far as someone doing the electrical for you.. you'll probably spend a smal fortune. i would charge a small forture.
--are you wanting to just repair the factory harness. whats the problem with it in the first place?
--if it just needs to be hooked up correctly, you can do all that with a little patience and the wiring diagram.

Well, I have a mechanics manual with wiring diagram, and yes, I want to use factory harness... the problem is, It seems that one or two of the wires have been changed, and it seems I could be missing a thing or 2, so if (without spending a small fortune ;D) I could get it wired, I would be set, and have a running bike.... I'm just mentally handicapped when it comes to reading wiring diagrams for some reason... I suppose it's because I've never had to do it before... So, yea... I will write down the things I have done, and then post it on here later, maybe others can jump in and be like... NO IDIOT, THAT'S WRONG!!!  ::)

I would not take it to the dealer.
You should do a spark check, first off [are your plugs getting spark?].
If you are not up to the challenge, find a small shop that specializes in elec work.
If you just have a few issues, won't cost you a "small fortune".

Good Luck.

I used this wire diagram and printed it out and kept it by the bike. The one odd thing Honda did is used green for the ground and black for power (along with other colors) so once you get past that it gets easier. Also I have a brand new (only about 10 miles on it) rear tire if you want one. I have to find a way to ship it but its just going to collect dust other wise, its stock size tho.. In fact its the tire on my bike in my avatar picture, I don't have the tube, because they ripped it when the dealership took it off. I also have some other 550 odds and ends for a 75, I will have to see what I have. The tire is a Bridgestone Spitfire S11R 110/90-18 M/C 61H.

Oh, cool!! Thanks for the color diagram, I had that when I had my old original mechanics manual, but since I got the new print one, everything is in black and white.... works the same... just more reading... As for parts, I am still looking, (even though funds are dry for another month *sad) so send me a PM of prices and stuff like that

Oh, also, almost forgot.... No spark from electrical... in fact, really nothing turning on at all... I've ruled out it's not because of my lack of Voltage Regulator, because it never had one, and when it was hooked up originally, it worked... sooooo....

I just cannot figure out what things I'm missing to make this thing turn on... everything seems to be plugged in, but I get absolutely nothing... Battery is fine, in fact I can attempt a force start with a pair of pliers, it just does no good since no spark. I'm 98% sure that all "Essential" electric is hooked up correctly, so, IDK.... Like I said, I'm diagramming what I have and don't have so, it should be posted soon, I'll try to make it as detailed as possible... maybe in the next 1-2 days I'll have that finished.

!!!!!!Oh, Also!!!!!!!!
I am all for taking out things that are not necessary, if you have a good Idea for toggle switches, etc... I am ALL FOR IT!!!! I don't Need all of my controls to be on the handlebars, toggles as a side panel are fine too.

check that main fuse... its the 2nd one from the right (i think).. it will knock everything out if its blown... this is easy to do when plugging/unplugging stuff.. would be a good idea to go pick up a few boxes of fuses any way. i like to have a few spares handy just in case.

Hey, just thought I'd let everyone know, while I was bored at work, I did some looking up on custom wiring projects... these require some small modding in one place or another, but you'll see it..... check out these links... very helpful stuff.

Here's the images *I'll show the first link first, it's my fav.

And, the second link.

Thought these may be able to help someone out there.

Hey guys, does anyone know how hot your pipes get toward the back end, when running for several hours??? I ask, because, the only issues with mine, are that they have a few holes in them.... I was thinking of plugging them with JB Stick quick weld, sanding that down, and then painting the pipes, and it says the stick weld when fully cured will withstand 500 degrees F... which, I didn't think pipes got anywhere near that hot toward the back. It's a $10 temporary fix that I think would be worth it.

Just happened to check my header the other day after a 20 min ride, the 4 pipes were around 200 degrees near the cylinder.
Hope that helps.

I believe the JB Weld will hold up, just be sure to give it lots of cure time, I give mine about 24hrs when I use it.. Its a good budget fix, could be that the pipes need to be replaced next year but it gives you some time.

Okay, so I'm finally doing my wiring, and my plan is to eliminate pretty much ALL of the original wiring (replacing it with the mutant wiring diagram provided from www.torkypig.com) I will be using 2 toggle switch panels, one on the left of the bike, one on the right (the one on the left will be things like turn signals and headlights, so I don't have to take my hand off the throttle, the one on the right will serve as my 'Power to engines' spot)

I'd like to thank Laminar for a post that he made explaining the connections of the CB550 key ignition because I plan to eliminate it and use switches. For those of you who haven't seen and are interested, basically it explains that 'Accessory' connects the Brown wire to Brown-White, while 'ON' connects the Black wire to Red. I will be using 2 switches for those purposes... A green lit switch for 'ON' and an orange lit switch for 'Accessory'.

Currently I have finished my headlight toggle (it's a 3-way 2on, 1off switch) and I have also wired my Kill switch (which is a red lit rocker-style switch)

Right now, the situation I'm working on is the starter / regulator / alternator situation.... This will be the least fun, but once finished, the rest should be a cake walk!!!!!!

Well, it was 3 weeks late, but I finally got my Metal Spray gun last night. It works like a dream... I've got some paint drying on some chrome at home right now, hopefully it will be dry by tonight, if the quality turns out good, then I'm going to start doing some painting while I finish my wiring, especially since I don't have the wiring very far along, it would be good for me to go ahead and strip down the frame to get it painted.... The paint I'm using is a pre-mixed automotive Urethane based paint, so, tonight we'll see if it's worth anything!
