It is not the same guard. I have the ones like TJJKC have, but my bike came with the one you posted.

I am not sure which one I will like better.

You could try searching on "crash bars" or "engine bars"

Google Images will probably have loads.

First pic is of engine guards the second is the full crash guards with the highway pegs.  First thing I took off mine and I went with the engine guards.  I think they are a cleaner look personally and the highway pegs are pretty useless unless you are doing long trips.

I've seen (and have) three types of engine guards.

One is like Kyle's
One is like tjjkc.  (Like) on my Blue F below)
And the last is what is pictured unmounted.  The three leg type seem to have the most clearance issues with the exhaust pipes on some models.  I just don't remember which models, though.

i'd like to get a set of the engine guards... im not sure if they are the same but i like the one's on SohRon's bikes. just have a cleaner look. i do want to have something on there though... would hate to learn that lesson the hard way..

thanks for the pics everyone. TwoTired, is the three legged version much different than the other "engine guards"?

The difference between the two leg engine guard and the 3 leg engine guard is one leg.

The two leg variety bends the frame mount tabs in a crash/rollover.  I believe they are considered "sacrificial".
The three leg variety does not bend in most mishaps.  In order to bend the three leg variety, the frame and engine will have to distort.  I hope you are not on the bike when that happens.

The three leg also has a different main support profile where the forward end stand proud farther than the rear.  I think that is more art than function, though.

Dunno, is that "much difference"?

Hey, I found a pic of them installed!

I think I read somewhere (awhile back) that the 3 leg do not fit certain models because of the frame structure (F's? maybe) not sure.  They are safer / stronger though.  I kinda looked at it this way when I choose mine if I hit something hard enough to snap my engine mount (which is where one of my 2 legs mount last I looked) the frames probably trash anyway.  That and I didn't like the look once I saw it on a bike  ;D

Kind of resurrecting this thread - found it from a Google search.

I really want a set of the 3-legged crash guards for my 550K - i think they look great.  But ebay and some googling hasn't turned up a source - anyone have any leads on these?
