63 beetle pick up truck! It's been in our family for decades. With the battery charger she starts right up. A year ago she helped me move a 20 ft. tree. Families would stop and point at me when I drove by. I'll see if I can get a photo of it... Time for my family has always been measured by what VW's were in the garage at the time. My affection for the air-cooled VW engine is what made me like the Honda OHC from the beginning.

the racer is a 550. the one that is all apart is a 74 450, its going to be a cafe . and the third one is a 74 750 i was going to make it a cafe, but after a lot of thought I'm going to make it a stock Restoration. and the 4th one is my friends life long 750 build

I do fall on the "Purist" side of things i suppose. I refuse to repaint my faded and slightly rusty 350f. It's the original paint. Sure, it'll look better if it had fresh paint, but it will never be original again. I cringed seeing that cut fender. I shed a tear seeing the frame cut. You obviously know what you're doing though, and obviously aren't half assing anything at all. And it's not like you're cutting up a sandcast.

Should be a pretty sweet bike when it's done. Definitely are making some killer progress.

...like the fourth one down. You can choose any color combo you can think of. Sizes are pretty variable too. Mine happens to be charcoal/white 10in x 1.2in. Quality seems superb.

After the little photoshoot, I ended up having to flip my fork seals around..ooops

Thanks for all the support and criticism of my project here. I know it is confusing seeing a classic being chopped up, but I'm just trying to have fun with my baby. Sure it makes more sense to choose a troubled bike and bring her back to life, but I'm not into that. This is my only bike and I wanted her to be under construction for as little time as possible. I knew what I wanted and I went after it, I hope that is what we are all doing here.

I too think you maybe should paint the rear rim red too. Kind of like unmatched socks.

I like the mismatched look! I've always been into fixie bikes, and always admired the mismatched wheel, like this one (not mine).

My rebuild is pretty mild, so I thought I'd spice it up with something uncommon. So, I don't plan on having the rear powder-coated .

I am running rear turns only, they are part of my integrated light bar from Custom Dynamics. I don't know if I need front turns, but so far I've been successful at hand signaling, especially when I ride near police cars.

did you get the entire seat and cowl from RR? or is it an airtech cowl? looking GOOD! have you thought of powdercoating the rear wheel the same, or close to the same, color as your body? then you'd have two mismatching, yet matching wheels!

The bike looks great...I have a question about the LED light bar...I have seen similar ones on the web but never in real life...if it bright enough that you'd feel safe on the highway at night?

Seat comes with the cushion, cowl, and hardware, just pull out your old seat pins and latch, and hook this one up. I had to shim mine a little, but nothing major. It comes in black, and required very little prep before paint. If you wanted to hide some electronics underneath, that seems possible too, but I like to see all the parts of a bike.

The LED light bar is right on my threshold for safety comfort. There is a crummy vid of it a few posts back. Honestly, If I were more unsure, I'd just buy two of the light bars and mount one on top of the other, but that is rather pricey. On a side note, I'm trying to stick some reflective safety stickers on the rear of my helmet in a fancy way, maybe like the "H" of the Honda auto emblems. Has anyone done this?

Bought this over the weekend and I love it. Cost $49 for the stand, plus $10 for the swingarm adapters. I'm pretty sure it can be used as is for the forks as well. Stock rear tire has like 1.5 cm clearance. Now, no more centerstand and an 8.0 quake here in CA won't shake it lose. It's very lightweight too. Support your local Harbor Freight!

nice! i have the other one of theirs, as it was on sale. works pretty well, but watch out, the rubber coating on the swingarm mounts tears off very fast! i'd like to get the spool mounts on all my bikes! lots more secure that way

I love gray and red, here is the paint I used. Gray is Aviator Gray Pearl from Audi and the red paint is custom matched to the powder-coated rim, which is Dupont Red Baron.

Yea... that bike turned out excellent (and in short order judging by timestamps)! Thanks for letting me know about ClassicCycleCity.com. I got in touch with Ricky_Racer about the cafe seat. He says that they can still crank stuff out even though the site is down for maintenance.
I'm curious about your rear shocks. What are they and where'd you get them?

Yeah gnarlycharlie, in southern California, you don't have much of a winter build season!

Shocks came from Dave Quinn. He is a popular place to get these Hagon shocks from. I told him on the phone my weight and that I ride solo around the city mostly, and he set the spring rate accordingly. Since it seems you are getting a RR seat too, I'll tell you that the ride is stiffer than stock seat with stock shocks.

Great job, gorgeous work

This is one of my favorite custom builds I've seen here. The modifications are classic, not over the top. You've shown a real respect for the original design of the bike and simply given it your own twist. Bravo.
