Greetings from Chicagoland!
« on: April 25, 2010, 09:18:46 AM »
Hello,

First time poster, long time lurker here. Been perusing tech articles and peoples' builds for quite awhile now, so I figured I'd take the time to say "Hi."

Name's Kev, I started riding March of '09, my first bike (that I still own) is an '81 CB650C. I also purchased an '01 GSX-R 750 last August. Been to one track day on the Suzuki so far, but I have to say, the 650's just more fun and comfortable around town. The ladyfriends also seem to enjoy it more than the repliracer, which I tend to ride solo most of the time!

The CB's not too bad for her age, original paint on the tank and side covers, anyway. Right now, she's got a bobbed rear fender, turn signals and euro handlebars. I currently have a veritable mountain of parts to slap on (GL1000 front end, going with 18" wheels front and back, CB750F swingarm and rear disc hub, 929RR rearsets, Redwing dampers, etc.) before the summer starts. I'll be using her to commute back and forth from the south side of Chicago to the Loop area where I go to school (John Marshall Law) and perhaps the south suburbs (my parents live in the Naperbrook area).

I used to be a mechanic for my father in a past life ... All I ever wanted to do after high school was go to tech, but my parents gave me two choices: Law or Medicine. I chose the one that I thought would be less painful (not by much).

Anyhow, I'll continue to keep lurking (at least until finals are over) for now, but I'm sure I'll be needing help from everyone once I start working on the 650 again ...  ;D

Here's a few pics,

Back when I started having these crazy thoughts about turning my 650 into a cafe racer ...

My brother's CB400T in the back (he's since sold it for a '99 GSX-R 750), my CB650 in the middle, and my dad's '79 CB750K project (needs a new primary chain at the very least; bought for $150!)

"Marisa", my CB650C.

I bought a replica Giuliari seat cover to put on a CB750K4 seat, but I haven't had the time to mold the seat hump.  :'(

That's me.  :D

10 MPH, right outside my parents' front door. :D I was trying to sell the bike last September ...

My other bike ...

Turn 5 at Blackhawk Farms Raceway ... That "N" stands for "n00b". That track's pretty interesting on a bike!

Hey, nice little stable you have going on there.  Glad to see someone using a Gixxer for it's intended purposes, tearing up the track :)

Sounds like you have a lot of mods planned!
