chicago crime THAT bad?
« on: April 26, 2010, 10:23:59 PM »
i just finished watching a news segment about people wanting the national guard called into chicago because of the amount of crime there right now. nearly as many people have been killed in the city of chicago (116) as troops in iraq and afghanistan (125)

It's because none of those people can protect themselves (Chicago gun ban)...

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010/03/02/john-lott-supreme-court-chicago-handguns-crime-washington/
Quote
But Chicago does not need to look beyond its own immediate neighborhood for evidence. The figure at the top of this piece from the forthcoming third edition of my book "More Guns, Less Crime" shows how Chicago’s murder rates changed relative to the rates in the adjacent counties. In the five years before the ban, Chicago’s murder rate fell by 28 percent relative to those counties. (County level crime data only goes back to 1977.) In the five years after the ban, Chicago’s murder rate doubled relative to those other counties. The patterns are also similar when Chicago's or Washington's murder rates are compared to other large cities or the U.S. as a whole, where gun laws are much less strict.

Typical gestapo police state behavior- what else would you expect from the Daly Politico Machine?

Remember the Chicago Democratic convention?

I think they need to call in the national guard just to watch over the corrupt politicians and police.

On another note, I live in Chicago proper and and can honestly say I dont see that much crime. The biggest problem with Chicago is that there is a lot of hostility from everyone. We have the most segregated city in the USA, which does not help a darn thing either.

On a more serious note, I read the Chicago Tribune online everyday and lately in the breaking news section it always seems to be one shooting after the next. Then there's this story which happened over the weekend in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood.....

Some bad #$%* indeed..

That's happened a few blocks from where I live.  Being Bucktown, they put a lot of resources into catching the guy.  There wouldn't have been a swift arrest or much news about had it happened 20 blocks east.

Lifting the gun ban would just make it easier for straw buyers to flood the city with more and cheaper handguns.  Chicago needs fewer guns, more teachers and jobs.

Things do seem a bit "chippy" this spring for some reason.

West, I mean.  20 blocks would be almost in the lake.

Its true, the CPD has their own understanding of law and justice.  It varies a bit from the kind on the books.

Did Jesse Jackson show up in Chicago?

I doubt it....

The Rockford cops shoot a true criminal who tried to get an officers gun and he shows up here touting that the RPD is a bunch of racist pigs.

Why not just give every citizen a conceal and carry license? Less crime for sure, and a lot of morons would be taken away.

At least he's not Al Sharpton.

Well, opinions will differ about gun control.  Its all a rich tapestry.

Bad day for the Chicago PD, or at least their image.  Some things haven't changed much since 1968.  One bad apple, I know.

Yeah i saw this earlier today, I love this city.

And to be honest I love just about any CPD officer I have come in contact with, when my car got hit, they took care of everything including telling the tow truck driver to leave my car so I could drive it home.

But its people like the story above that make me mad, I dont blame him as a cop I blame him as a person, just like the other cop who beat up the lady in the bar, forgot his name but im sure you know who I mean.

I personally think that police officers should get punished harder when they violate the law, becuase they are supposed to enforce the law so when they violate it they should be charged double.

I got my car insurance cancelled once because they said if I drove either car to Chicago and left it in the wrong neighborhood it would be stolen right away. New policy, no claims.

That's pretty kind of you, my gf makes such donations to Berwyn all the time.  If I was a business next to those red light cameras, I'd find it pretty depressing to see potential customers and revenue plummet with each flashbulb that goes off.

It is a rite of passage to have a vehicle stolen or broken into here.

The Green Mill?

I've seen quite a few big names play there. Played there once with Kurt Elling.

Ah, the good old days.  The good old days, when there were 18 murders per 100K people, or at least there were in 1925.  Looks like 2008 had the same rate.  Huh.  At least its not 1992 or 1974.  There were 29 and 34 homicides per 100K people, respectively.

Never been to the Green Mill, I should go.  There's a million places I should go to but never find the time to.
