The Dark Side: DOHC carb. balancing.
« on: April 27, 2010, 11:25:01 PM »
Hi Guys,

Sorry to have ventured over to the Dark Side, BUT ....

Can anyone make sense of the w/shop manual instructions for balancing carbs on a 1981-2 CB750 Bol D'Or.

Thinking this would be a snap (ha - have I not learnt anything ...) I examined the carbs in order to connect my vacuum gauges .... Ohhh - K .... only one vacuum test point on #2 carb. Puzzle puzzle ... ???  ??? ???  Idle mixture screws ...  ??? ??? ??? even though w/s man. specifically mentions all of these.

Only other visible adjustments are the carb-to-carb relative butterfly adjustments and the overall idle adjustment (knob).

So with only one vacuum test point and the relative butterfly adjustments, HOW does one balance the carbs?

Enlighten me pls, Obe One.

The vacuum/sync connection is a screw hole/screw located on the top  outboard side of the (each) intake manifold (at top cyl.  fin line/just beyond the rubber joint line, on the eng.).

The mixture screw(s) is located underneath the carb(s), on the engine side of the float bowl.

If they are not there ???...........post a clear picture.... :)

Hi W1sa.

Just in case:  I'm not ridiculing your reply.  Daffy is one of my all-time favourite characters and he really comes to mind while trying to sort a frustrating problem like this one. :)))

Sometimes there are problems with the differences in the sense of US humour and our Oz humour. It bothers me because it can easily lead to sad misunderstandings. :(

We're far far less PC and far more in yer bloody face with a good-natured down-to-earth outlook on life than just about anywhere else.

Takes a while to get used to. But it's good when you do.

Well I try talking to the dog from time to time.

He always looks really interested but never has any answers.  (23 24 Reasons Why Dogs are Better than Women)  ;D ;D ;D

So who else is there?  ???

Found everything. :-)

Big idle improvement so far by setting mixture screws correctly. Need vacuum adapters to balance carbs.

Thanks.
