Topic: 1978 550K jets????

Need bigger carb jets, can't seem to find any aftermarket jets for the 1978 550K........as I understand it is a different carb from the earlier 550's. Anyone?

Yes, I believe they changed in '77.
I have a spare rack of carbs for parts if you need 'em; not sure what jets are in there, though.

sudco has all the jet sizes for the pd carbs from a 78 550.

thanks, checked out the sudco site....didn't see anything for the PD carbs; do they share jets with another type of Kehin?

Anyways, update with a bunch of noob questions:

pulled the carbs, and they do indeed have the original 90 main jets. Think I will try going to 105's. The other jet (pilot/slow?) seems to be permanant as it does not have anything to screw it out with. Does this seem right?

Also, wanted to check the float height while I had them off the bike. Elsewhere on this site I saw the float height should be 12.5mm for the 78 carb. They all seem to be a bit more and I want to make sure I am measuring it right. Is the measurement taken back by the swivel/ in the center, or at the end of the float? All would be different as it would not sit "flat"(which might mean the 12.5 # is wrong??)

Z1 enterprises carries these jets - even if they aren't listed on their website, they can still get them.  Just email them and ask.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info, I actually found the jets at my local motorcycle store. Turns out they are just the basic Keihin small round jets that many Keihin carbs (except of course the ones with push in or hex style jet) on a wide variety of bikes use.
