I am trying to mount some Avon Road-riders on my 78 cb400TII comstars, and having a heck of of time getting the bead centered...

Cleaned the rims,tried dish soap,Windex(as per U-tube),inflated to 45 psi,deflated and re-inflated.

Not the first set of Avons that I have mounted but so -far the most pain

 ............suggestions .....

If you buy something.........pay for it !
If you sell something .......ship it !
If you say you are going to do something......do it !
If you have a question about something......ask it !
When the seller answers ........let him know whether you still want it or not !
If you receive something .....let the seller know you got it !
If you get something and are happy/un happy with it .....let the giver/seller know !
If you have any kind of issue,shipping/receiving/quality/price/shipping charges etc !

Not many on here have comstars.. and fewer mount them on their own.. You might PM Seaweb and see what he has done with his, if anyone knows it could be him..

Just a thought..

Wow, I've never had dish soap NOT do the trick.  A little bit on a sponge, run it around on the rim, and on the bead of the tire that rubs across the rim lip.  Pump it up to 45 ~ 50 psi and back down to 35 psi and it's done.  And, for one reason and another, I've installed 7 new tires in the last year.  4 on vintage steel spoke rims, 1 tubeless ComCast rim, 2 tubeless ComStar rims.

I also clean the rim with an SOS soap pad and water.  Don't press hard because you can scratch the aluminum.  But, enough to get the corrosion off and make the aluminum 'slippery'.

I guess that's all I got...

Try getting it up to about 60 psi and whack it with a rubber mallet.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

Zaipai......I thought that's what the classic bike thing was all about..........doing it yourself..

kirkn....had it up to about 45 .....I've done 2 sets of Avons ,78 550k and 74 360 ...both were tough but not like these on the 400T

333..........I'll give it a go.. 60 psi seems high,       but if it works

Thanks Guys

Yea, tires are the one thing I leave to the pro's that way they get balanced and trued and that is a lot off my mind given that tires are what keeps you on the road!  ;D
