Acc. is Accessories and Batt is to the battery (through the ignition switch).  this one's actually pretty good...

These guys (who drew your schematic) shoulda' stuck with the VWs... Take a look at my build for some pics covering installing the harness that might be of some help.

Here you have a very helpful interactive diagram. Take the black dots in the table and put them in the other column, and you isolate your problem wiring. It is from "Oldmanhonda".

Actually the Peace sign without the middle leg was the Love sign way back when.

he asked for a simple diagram, so the stock diagram isn't "simple" compared to the bare bones chopper ones.  i used that chopper one posted along with two very similar to these, and it yielded good results.  if you want turn sigs, you'll need to incorporate that part of the stock diagram into your build, as i don't know of a simpler way...  make sure you have GOOD GROUNDS and adequate and quality wire, and you'll avoid a lot of problems.  also, relay your headlight for sure, and horn if you want.  makes it brights and last longer and your horn will be louder w/ constant pitch.

the "peace sign" in the center is just your key switch.  it takes a constant hot to it, so it'll allow power to flow to the lights and horn, and then it allows it to flow to the starter as well on another pole.  make sure you also have a good fuse box, i'm going to use modern blade styles that have the little lights on them to show you if they're blown.

Yeah if you have the patience to sort through the stuff that doesn't apply is totally worth a careful read.  I'm about to delve into the wiring for my project as well, so I've been looking pretty closely at all this stuff!

While I was bored at work, I did some looking up on custom wiring projects... these require some small modding in one place or another, but you'll see it..... check out these links... very helpful stuff.

very nice finds!!  i like that 1st one a lot, and the 2nd is good for turn sigs!!  you don't need a 4 position ignition switch though.  also, don't forget if you want to run a starter switch, then that needs to be on the red starter wire.  alternatively, you could run a relay for your starter to avoid passing all that current through just a switch.  at least i think you could, this seems safer, no?

oh wait, the 2nd drawing takes this into consideration.  i like the 2nd one better now :D

Yes, Also, for additional info, it is to my understanding that these diagrams were intended for Harley's originally... But, I see no reason why you couldn't make them work, I intend to try it out... I can get all the stuff I need for the first one at Radio Shack for $31.... Also, keep in mind that the "COIL" is rigged for 2 spark plugs... NOT 4!

Oh, one more thing, you can view an interactive diagram here... HUGE HELP if you can manage a computer in the shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PURE GENIUS!!!!!

Hey there,

Any of you guys on this thread pull one of these wiring diagrams off? I really want to yank the guts out of my 78 550k and start over very clean and simple with as many modern electrical parts as possible. I'm a little weary at this point even with the diagrams though.
