 Are those rods stock length??

 I am sort of thinking if they kissed the sleeves that they may not have been in a huge bore motor?

The bolts are 5/16" diameter and 11/2 inch long beneath the socket head. The socket heads screw all the way into the main bearing cap.The main bearing cap shoulder has a different type of metal surface the bottom of the hex head rests on. I'm thinking flat washer even though I haven't been able to pry one out yet.
 One more thing ,the upper rod and bearing retainer were separated by the fracture method

Optical illusion. Rather than to continue guessing at the condition of the rods are Mr Rieck or Big Jay willing to do an inspection and service on the rods?

Looks more like 4 minutes to 12 to me.

I got out a dental pick and found out those are definatly washers supporting the bottom of the hex head bolt inside the bearing cap.

 That is not fracture method, it is serrated.

 Are the washers slit or just flat ? There is a special washer for allenheads called high crown I think.. but they may have just made their own.

 The mark at 11 oclock looks like a pre anodized little bump or burr.
 Are they standard length?

Rods are standard length. Washers are flat For what thats worth the rods are labeled RC

Best we could do is measure everything for you. If any dimensions are out, we cannot rebuild them. There is also no way to check the material fatigue.

Those serrations do make it a bit difficult to resize big ends.

I bought a set of these in 75 from RC and i think i was told they were made by Carrillo, i may be wrong but thats what i remember.TC

I know the guy that made the golden rods. He cut them out of plate stock because that was way cheaper than having a forging die made.

Back in the day, we installed a lot of them as well as the MC japanese forged rods. Both had the bearing locater pins. We just took an old rod cap and drilled a hole in it dead center, and used it as a drill jig to drill the bearings.

If those rods have a 3/8 12 pt head, they are probably 5/16 thread. If so, we can hook you up with new bolts.

  Tom, if you would have read through the pages of this topic you have seen what Big Jay from A.P.E. stated about the R.C. Golden rods.  Carrillo had nothing to do with the aluminum rods.  As far as i know Carrillo has never made aluminum rods.

 They didnt do it cuz its cheaper, they did it cuz the forgings are more suceptible to a certain type of corrosion, thus shortening the life.
 The blank is cheaper  when you use a forging, the final product is not..
  They ran 300 plus HP on Golden Rods.

The guy that made them did it out of plate only as a cost deal. MTC when ahead and spent the big coin for a forging die. The dies are incredibly expensive. Then you have to have a forging shop hammer out the blanks.

 I screwed that up.. forged blank is/can be more costly to make, but machining is far less.
 Of course if they make enough of them, forging cost is much lower..

 do you know,  if the MTC were made from the same forgings as Superrods & Yoshi?

Just to clarify ,my intent was never to have these rods live in a high rpm hell.I have stroker golden rods and  MTC crank for that.I plan to put them in an 895 Henry Abe kit and put the motor in my Seeley Honda.I do have another stroked crank with a spacer plate(which I don't care for) I may put in this motor.This engine would be all about torque.I always wanted Golden Rods so if genuine and they're within spec I finally got them in my Golden Years.Yes, the motor will see red line occasionally(11'000rpm) but will spend most of its' life puttering along happily between between 2500rpm and 7500rpm.They will be magnafluxed and checked to see they're within specs, but regardless they shouldn't come close to seeing the environment the were designed for.

You generally Zyglo aluminum to check for fractures.

Why do you want to rev it too 11,000, dose it make power that far up ?

I defer to the elder statemen of the board. Zyglo for the rods. What's used on magnesium these days. My kimtabs have to be checked.

You caught me Sam. No  non race engine built for torque will have any thing left at those rpms. By the way,Sam could you PM me and show me how th put smiley faces
