Got the bike ready today to take down to Corbin tomorrow.  Took a bit longer than I thought to get all the bits back on the bike. (doesn't it always?)

No brake function, the tank is a sieve, dry rotted tires.  But hey, should be good enough for a test mule.

Corbin has a 78 CB750F now, not pretty, but an example with the important bits in the right place.  I also had a conversation with Greg Hurley.

He asked what style the seat should be?   Solo or dual.  Kinda caught me off guard, as I thought Jerry already had the design elements agreed to.  But, I said I wanted one that was dual capable.

The picture in Post 8 shows an old Corbin Gunfighter.  They'd like to reuse the original cowl, but it has holes in the side for a trim piece that goes the full length of the seat and cowl.  I didn't think anyone wants exposed holes.   Unresolved/TBD.
I told him I'm a function over form man.  Not really a style expert.  (But, I'm unable to withhold my opinions!)
I relayed that it could look like a solo seat with the passenger section following the contour of the cowl.  Like in post #8.  Unfortunately, I didn't bring that picture with me.

The original seat has kind of a raised duck tail/butt rest just ahead of the cowl.  I wondered why it was like that, then assumed it was to keep the tailbone from impacting that hard cowl.  I figured the style mavens would prefer smooth lines over passenger creature comfort.  ??

I asked if lowering the seat height was an option.  I know there are some out there with short legs.  Unresolved/TBD.

I gave him this web forum address and said he should look in on it for more opinions of what the seat should look like.

Here is your chance to influence design.  Speak UP about what it is you'd like to see, have, buy.  If Greg doesn't check in here, I'll relay information to him.  But, if I don't get proper guidance, they may just make what I ask them to. ***WARNING***

Fantastic progress TT!  Good news.  My question is this:  What is coming out of your pocket for this?  It seems that this is going to be a prototype for all F models to come, so we'd all better make some input on this.

My preference would be a solo seat retaining the cowl. I'm not sure what he has in mind now that he's mentioned solo or dual. I definitely do NOT want a Gunfighter and Lady that one of our guys posted if this is what he is referring to as dual.

I went back in the site and pulled up a picture of a Gunfighter. This is the type of seat I'd like. It utilizes the cowl, is lower and appears to be solo as I'd think of it. I feel this better suits the Super Sport nature of the F.

Perhaps this could be a dual as he calls it considering someone could conceivably sit behind the rider?? If this is a dual what would a solo that utilizes the cowl look like?

We really do need to get Greg online with his thoughts and ideas and explanations of what he is thinking of.

My question is this:  What is coming out of your pocket for this? 

It's 100 mile round trip @ 12MPG and gas @ 3.15/gallon.  I'm supposed to be comp'd a seat.
So far, I've got about a day's work into the bike to configure as stock. (and doing the truck conversion for hauling, shell and internal rack removal and reinstall).

Below is a picture of what I thought you guys were asking for.

It looks solo, but the space between the driver and the original shaped cowl is padded and upholstered.  Someone could sit there as a passenger.  I think this is the current direction Greg is heading.

Use the original cowl. That's what I'm assuming is on the red bike. Retain the bike's heritage but with a sportier seat. Does anyone know if this seat uses our original seat pan or does the cowl attach to a complete new seat?

That is HellFishTat's bike. I emailed him to join in and provide the necessary insight.

Me too. As far as seat height goes, I definitely prefer sitting a bit lower and I'm 6'1". Can't really tell from the pics if it is lower than stock. Thanks for making this finally happen!

I'm pretty sure that both the pics I posted are the same style seat.  The issue is that the there is a trim piece on the original seat that run all the way along each side of the seat including the stock cowl.  The trim is attached to the cowl through holes in the cowl.  Both the examples I posted here, have had the cowl holes filled and painted over.

Is that what every one wants to do?  Or, do you expect Corbin to have a solution for dealing with the holes in the cowl?

I removed that trim long ago, and it trim wouldn't work well IMOP.

The trim follows the line of the tank/seat/tail to help create a horizontal look (along with the tank/top of seat).  The seat design we are looking at will bust up that pattern anyway so might as well make a clean break.

No real good answer here. A few thoughts: as you mentioned perhaps the seat wizards might have a good idea, perhaps a small plastic "button" of sorts that would push through and fasten (like some of the auto fasteners) to just simply plug up a hole, or using a shortened trim piece and fastening through the 2 exposed holes. I just checked a spare broken cowl and trim piece so I think this is a feasible option.

My 2 downsides would be plugging holes then painting Flake Sunrise Orange & Candy Sapphire Blue (since I have both color body sets). I'd prefer to keep it stock (except for this removable replaceable seat) &/or finding correct color trim pieces which are almost non-existent then cutting them.

Speaking of the trim pieces, we need to find someone that can print sheets of 3M adhesive film type stuff with our colors so we can refresh these trim pieces. My original Blue is scratched up, I have 2 same side orange ones that could stand to be renewed, and I have a black set that is less than optimal that doesn't match my blue or orange body pieces. And, no, I can't part with them. I know someone will need one but saved them for the restore.

I would also be partial to the "Solo" seat pictured above, especially the one pictured on the red bike. I'm also for losing the trim piece, either fill and paint or some small plastic buttons to fill the holes in the original cowl, or even small led lights in the holes.... with imagination anything is possible. A two-up seat might be nice for my K-model.

I never noticed the trim missing. I guess thats why it looks so good. The Corbin seat takes care of the front (seating) area but under the cowl?? The red 750f looks great without the trim piece but I wonder how it looks up close. Maybe they can make something to address this also? A plastic Gunfighter Corbin Logo trim piece? For the cowl section?

Greetings!

First off, sorry it took us so long to get around to this project... just needed to get the space/time in R&D to make it happen.

Obviously, the F arrived yesterday and is in our R&D shop as I write this. Mike (Corbin) was pretty excited about getting the bike in here just because of the history he personally has with them. Was hoping he would have been around to meet TT while the bike was being dropped off, but he had things pulling him in other directions yesterday. Perhaps when you (TT) come to pick up the bike he'll be around... you'll like him!

Likewise, when this project is getting close to done, let's be sure to schedule your pickup day when the factory is open. It's a lot more fun to check out when people are at it. Currently we're on Winter schedule so the shop runs 3.5-4 days a week depending on demand. Beats the heck out of putting more people on unemployment

Oops, didn't mean to create such a long post, sorry. To the point:

Yes, we weren't sure what folks were going to want for the bike. Back in the day we made the Gunfighter (solo), Gunfighter & Lady (dual) and on one of the 750 models Mike tells me we offered a King & Queen (highback seat).  Hey, it was the '70s!

Pretty clear that a Gunfighter is the way to go at this point. Haven't figured out the trim issue yet, but I'll let you know when we have an idea. Originally Mike said we could probably transfer the trim to our seat, but if it's that hard to come by, perhaps we'd be better served to come up with a better solution.
