Some quality Father/Daughter time
« on: May 15, 2010, 09:58:13 AM »
Well, now that I officially have the CX500 on the road and took it for a test ride the other day I decided to take my eldest girl out for a ride today. She has never been on the back of my bikes (the CBR previous to this wasn't condusive to it). My wife was at work and my youngest was at a B-Day party so I figured it would be a good time for it. She's 10 years old which in my opinion should have been on the back of the bike for about 4 years now but it wasn't worth fighting with the wife over!!

Anyways, it was only a short trip around the neighbour hood with a stop in at a buddy's place and a couple of errands but she had a GREAT time. As we were pulling in the driveway she asked if we could stay out for a while so I told her that after we had a bit to eat I would take her for a longer spin...

Oh and I never would have suspected this but I had 2 guys come over and comment on the CX...sure I got more looks from from hot young wmoen on the CBR but now I guess I gotta learn to live with attention from GHOF's instead ;)

Dennis

P.S. she does have a little 4-wheeler but it doesn't really count. I had to chuckle to myself when I had an open straight away with no cars ahead of me and she yelled up to me "There's no one ahead of you speed up!!!"...lol I think I have created a monster!!

Great story.  My daughter is 10.  We fished for a couple of hours today and had a great time.  She hooked a huge catfish and I'll remember her reaction for the rest of my days.  She giggled, yelled for help and couldn't stop smiling.  Quality time with your kid... it can't be beat.

I agree with that one, nothing better then spending time with the kids. Every summer we take the kids to the lake to go swimming and we bbq out with grilled chicken and some other great things, it's just to much fun. Last year we held my daughters b-day party at lake hartwell and we had the john boat his dad gave us and after we ate and cleaned up we headed out on the boat and the kids had a blast, we got about a mile from where the boat was parked and all the kids jumped out lol just about tipping the boat over  :D but we had a great time!! this year since my son and my daughters friends birthday fall in the winter we are celebrating all 3 kids b-day in one at the lake again, it was a hit! And both my kids love to ride on the back of the motorcyles we had in fla, if we had an errand to run we put helmets on the kids and go the back way away from all the main suicidal maniacs on 436, but we had the speed humps they loved to go over  ;D. I'd say my kids are little dare devils themselves, as now we give them rides in our back yard on the motorcyle that we had just gotten for free. they say speed up daddy lets go!!! :D

There is picture of me and my daughter going for a ride to Grandma's house on the Motorcycle Memories thread taken around 1984.  Now she has a little girl and I look foreward to taking the grandkid for a ride.

I've spent the last 17 years with my middle daughter drag racing, we went today. Lost but won back our entry fee. for a few years her sister raced too, They met in the final round 4 times. She started with a jr, dragster that ran 14 seconds at 35mph in the 1/8 mile, now she has run 7.6 at 180 in the quarter mile.

Well my return home from the second ride was poorly timed! As we were getting off the bike my wife drove up behind us...apparently it wasn't as well received by her as I had hoped! Apparently I don't respect my wife's thoughts and feelings about my kids on the bikes!! Oooops....that wasn't exactly my plan. But I think she will come around eventually. It was only a year or so ago that I convinced her to go for a ride finally so I can understand her apprehension. I just don't share the same feelings since I took my first ride around 4 and had my first bike around 6 years old.

Oh Man that sucks, but give her time, I was once one of those wives, heck I didn't even want my husband to get a motorcyle, that is until i got on the back of his ;D, But even though I changed my mind about him having a motorcyle it took me years afterwards before I changed my mind about the kids riding on the back. Once that happned WE got them helmets together and the kids Loved it, and i was not so scared anymore.
