I constantly see deer, both on the bike and in the car. I only came close to hitting one once; in a car. The closest I ever came to hitting an animal on the bike was a raccoon just a couple weeks ago.
there is a deer hit here every 24 hours. I too went for 36 years without hitting a deer.
Then, one with the pickup, no way to avoid, one with the bike, no way to avoid.
Where we live it's the same as the saying with 2 kinds of motorcyclist.
Those who have wrecked and those who will in the motorcyclist case.
With deer, it's those who have hit them and those who will.
The ones that are hard to hit are the ones I actually try for.

of course a lot of that has to do with mountain roads. Trees within 4 feet of the road, sometimes closer.
Steep hills on the sides of road was my demise, the deer fell out of the sky as far as I was concerned.
I know of one motorcyclist killed when a deer jumped out of a rhododendron thicket and landed in his lap.
There is no way to see that coming. I also know of one rider killed by a turkey coming off the mountain and
hitting him in the head, knocked him off the mountain.
