1977 CB750A master cylinder rebuild kit?
« on: May 18, 2010, 01:54:15 PM »
I have been searching for a while now and all I seem to find are rebuild kits for the 76 model. Why no 77 models? Are they that much different?

I cleaned a ton of junk out of the front caliper and got it looking like new. After bleeding, the front brake works great, but I have a slow drip that runs down the brake handle after it is squeezed a few times. Apart from just slapping on an aftermarket universal master cylinder, I would like to try to rebuild it. Anyone know where to get a rebuild kit for the 77 model?

Bike bandit shows that the master cylinder is common with the following bikes:

1977 Honda CB550F
1977 Honda CB550K
1977 Honda CB750A
1977 Honda CB750K
1978 Honda CB400A
1978 Honda CB400TII
1978 Honda CB550K
1978 Honda CB750A
1978 Honda CB750K
1978 Honda CX500

Maybe this will help.

I just bought and installed one earlier this year (for my 78) - I can check on the source when I get home.

1978 CB750A (upgrading very, very slowly)

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.

Too bad Bike Bandit only offer the CB400 & GL1000 Gold Wing

Further searching the net with the common models you listed still yielded no results. I keep finding either earlier or later years available. Nothing for 1977/78...  ???

*edit* Like wow...site after site, nothing... I'm serious, check it out. Site, after site, after site, nothing compatible with that year. It's nuts. (twilight zone music)

I got excited for a second when I found one that said "1977 - 1978 Honda CB750 Ft. Master Cylinder Rebuild Kit" But alas it was for the 1977 - 1978 CB750F Super Sport & 1978 GL1000K Goldwing.  ::)

Holy crap... I appreciate ya looking, but for that price I might as well get an aftermarket Master Cylinder. I might be willing to spend like 20-25 bux on a rebuild kit, but $50 for a few bits of rubber is ridiculous. The average price for the other year/makes averaged from 12-28 dollars. If I was trying to make a showroom bike it would be worth it.

The big difference is that the brake light switch is on the underside of the master instead of being a hydraulic switch in the line.

In the repair kit the only difference i can see is that the 77 does not use the none return valve that goes in first, check the bore diameter, if its 14mm i bet you can use the earlier kit, especialy if your piston is OK and just new rubbers are needed.

N.B. I cannot guarantee this as the 750A did not come to UK and consequently i never worked on one
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I know what you mean about the $$$.

I spent the money - and then accidentally found a master cylinder supplier (it either was OEM or looked exactly the same) - for about the same amount of money.  It was a uk (Britian) site - don't recall which one - and didn't find it after a short look.

I recall that the bore dimension is cast into the body of the master cylinder.

I know this is an old thread, but as I was searching for myself and I thought I would update it just in case someone else needs to find one as well.

I found the rebuild kit for a hair over $33 + shipping:
