Very pretty H1 for sale
« on: June 04, 2010, 12:21:28 AM »
I remember these in blue not orange but this is a very nice example of a true survivor of the handgrenade that was the mighty H1.

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

That's a 1972, they were orange. It was really neat year for H-1's, a crossover machine between the earlier hotrod bikes and the more sedate '73 to '75's.

Most, if not all of the cycle parts on a '72 are just for that year. The one you found for sale looks great!

'75 750 F0 Candy Sapphire Blue
'74 750 K4 Boss Maroon Metallic
'73 750 K3 Maxim Brown Metallic
'72 750 K2 Flake Sunrise Orange

Yeah I noticed that too, the seller probably wanted to keep it stock and refused to fit an aftermarket rubber on it. :)

This 1972 is every bit as capable of shredding the tire in smoke as this Blue 1971. My first ride on an H1 was an orange 1972 like the one you've posted. I was never the same and have always regarded them as a bike I would have someday for myself.

Watch this video - my favorite!

That bike was a transition model between the first and second generation CDI units. They sold two H1 models for 1972. This one with the disc brake has three sets of breaker points. The other model had the same CDI as the '71 and a drum brake.

I just remember #$%*ting my self either on the back of one or being the rider. ;D
Seat like a wooden plank and everything else as stiff as boards, very hard bike to love and an unforgiving #$%* to the young and brainless.
I think the H1 accounted for more dead young riders in NZ than any other bike until the 750 Kwaka came along.
But in a straight line.....bloody amazing!!!!!

I had a friend in high school that had a Kaw.400 triple and I had a Honda CB360. My Honda was a much more reliable bike, but for all out speed and performance the Kaw.was king and it was only a 400. I can only imagine what H1 500 would be like.

A friend had a '71 H1. I'm pretty sure the H1 bike was the first stock model to be able to kill you just for holding the throttle open, bikes that will wheelie over and land on top of you that way are a dime a dozen now (OK, a bit more expensive) but back then this was pretty unusual. The exhaust tuning caught at about 6000 RPM and horsepower suddenly increased - it felt like another engine had started. At least the 71 had a disk brake unlike the first "widowmaker" model. Still had the rubber frame and fish oil shocks though.
One day his bike stopped working. I remember the dealer (small local shop) asking him to come over, I drove him there. Frank Mrazec, the dealer, just said "Hi, it's lunch time, lets go eat - I'll give you a ride home" so I left. It turns out he wanted a few beers in my friend before he told him what a new CDI system was going to cost.

My friends early model Mack1 boke a rotor (just like a car rotor) and he was walking or sitting on the back of my T350 for 3 months. ;D
Front brake was non existant which was a shame as it was surely required. :D

My friends dad showed me a photo album he had from the 70's-80's. He bought one of these of the showroom floor. My jaw dropped when I saw the picture of it. Same color and all. I've always wanted to ride one, but me thinks I never will. :'(
That's what I'd like to hear.

I've had 8 of the H2's and H1's...I like the 500 more than the 750 simply because the engine's tune is actually more aggressive than the 750's in stock form. The 750 makes more torque/power especially at lower rpm, but the 500 howls and comes on with a wonderful hit over the top.

These are some pics of my - H2's and H1's left to right  in 1st pic - 1975 H2, 1974 H2, 1970 H1, 1974 H1, 1976 KH500 (H1)
