I hope you aren't using the probes connected to the meter as in your picture.

Hehe... I would never do that... but for arguments sake, if I was that ignorant, how should they be plugged in?

This thing didn't come with instructions...

Red lead should be plugged in on the right, where the black lead is in the pic. Black lead should be plugged into the center, marked Com, for common, or ground.

Hey, I managed to make out it has a diode test, too! (But just barely !!! :) )

Not to completely thread-jack but...could accidentally grounding your positive batt. terminal with all subsequent connections in line, possibly ruin your field coil/rectifier/voltage reg? I have a perfectly running/charging bike this am, went to clean up wiring for road test #2 an bumped pos. lead against frame/ground and now my battery wont recharge off the engine, put a charger on this evening, will see if the same draing happens tommorrow. Again, sorry but I believe I'll be using this post if my issues still are there tommorrow morning:(

You have the stock regulator and rectifier units?

I would test the rectifier.  Probably let the smoke out of the diodes in there.  Only the manufacturer knows how to put the smoke back in.

The FAQ has a rectifier test procedure.

I redid the test with the probes connected properly just to be sure... same results as before.

So what do we know know? Field coil is good, rectifier is good, regulator is good?

Next step? AC?

Cheers

When you are confident about the Field coil resistance and power to it.  Then check for AC volts on the yellow wires.  Black probe on Rectifier green, and red probe on each of the yellows out of the harness from the alternator.  If your yellows connect to white on the rectifier, either note that mentally that they are logically yellow or paint them sum#$%*es.  There should be about 60Volts on the AC lines, assuming they aren't loaded down too much by the system.

Cheers,

Is this an engine running test, or with engine off?

You're checking alternator output.  So, it has to be spinning.

Ok, So this topic has layed dormant for too long! lol...I have been trying to keep up as my build progressed. and I am at the point where I tested volt reg. and got over 15V to battery with grn/blk hooked together and revved up(this would say my volt reg is bad right??)..also got 14v at connection point of during test, then i did ohm test on voltreg and got 7.9ohm...also did feeler guage test and is stuck to my damn case the elec/mag field was so strong..I think its the volt reg but help me clarify before i spend the cash. thanks in advance.

Honda code Green wire is battery neg terminal.  Honda code Black black wire is Battery POS through the key switch.
Connecting these wires together ought to blow a fuse or melt the wiring.

Best to review/amend what you told us.

With nothing connected to the Vreg, black to white terminals should be zero ohm.

I don't know how to interpret what you've written.
Maybe someone else can figure it out.

No offense, but it just looks like major flail to me.

Hi bobber, here's what to do  ;). First read the FAQ section about the charging system. Then start a new topic to ask questions if you have a problem with your bike not charging, which is not evident from your posts, in fact no problem is explained.... suggest you re-read your own posts and figure if they would make sense to anyone else... my 2c.
