Topic: I found out where the gas was dripping from

I searched around, but didn't really find a lot on what to do with the dreaded pinhole in the gas tank.  Is this what KREEM is for?  The tank seems pretty sound but for the 2 pinholes I've found (so far).  Help!

Well, I brazed patches over pin holes in a tank I had.  But, defueling and de-vaporing the tank is absolutely required, as well a painting.

However, JB weld should work and auto stores sell tank patch material which is often epoxy based.

To use kreem or any other kind of tank liner you first have to remove all the rust from the inside.  If you already have pinhole leakage as it is, chances are rust removal will open up a whole bunch more.  Once these tanks get bad enough, sometimes rust is the only thing holding them together.

Not to rain on your parade, but have you tried to determine how sound the rest of the tank is? You found two pin holes, there could be other weak areas about to become more.

A few years ago, at the spring Hershey Auto Show, a vendor was there who did repair work on MC gas tanks.  Essentially, they would cut out the flat panels under the tank, bead blast the interior of the tank, and weld in new metal.   If you can't do this yourself, search around on google - maybe these guys are still in business and have a website somewhere.

The inside's rusty, and I'm working on cleaning it up. It generally seems pretty sound, and I was surprised to find these. I'm pretty sure that at this point I'm going to strip as much of the old paint off as I can to see what lies underneath.  Any suggestions on paint stripping?  I'd rather use a chemical than sand the whole thing from scratch.  Dust sucks. 

This is actually my 175 tank, and they're a lot more difficult to find than for my 550 (I have 2 spares for that one, both in good shape).  The rebuild sounds pricey, probably more than this one's worth.  I'm going to have to keep my eye out for one; the CL175's are more abundant than the CB175's, but I think they're a little different.
