Help identify 550 forks please
« on: July 08, 2010, 06:21:41 am »
I picked up a 550k yesterday.  I'm not sure how many parts are not stock.  The label says '77 k, but there are many details that don't seem to fit.  By the way, I'm new to 550's.

So...today's question is what forks are these? And...are these also 550 forks (notice the dual brake mounting ears.   are they from an 'F' model?  where do I look for these comparisons while I work on manuals.

intrigued by the wail...seduced by the scream.

Top look like early CB650 or even CB400.
Bottom look like F2 750 or later CB650 maybe DOHC 750/900
Neither fork is 550, don't know what mudguards are either but not 550
I fake being smart pretty good

Thanks PJ, my local shop showed me a picture (parts fiche) of a '79 650 today.  The controls and the brakes matched up, so it looks like there is a 650 frontend on the 550 frame.  There are also splices in the wiring harness on the handlebars to support this theory.
