I did a friendly race against a guy and his 883 Sportster. I have a 400F. His is dead stock with 40 horsepower. I have a thundering 38 horsepower.
His torque beat me for the first 50 feet, then it was all over. Less weight and more RPM took it. If the road was curvy, forget it, I would have REALLY killed him.
He was shocked. He ribbed me before for having a " jap moped", but after that little experience he was humbled. He asked how I did it. I explained that with less than half the displacement, I had nearly equal the power and weighed about 250 pounds less*. Power:Weight ratio.
He originally wanted to go for pinks, but I said, "nah, lets just have one for fun, THEN we'll go for pinks." Afterwards, I asked him if he still wanted to race the Jap Moped for pinks. He respectfully declined.
*: Someone told me that new sportsters (his is an '05) weigh like 640 pounds!!!!
So you got 400F power in a package weighing over 100 pounds MORE than a 750.
