My new 1968 Suzuki T500 Cobra
« on: July 10, 2010, 10:53:37 AM »
Pretty amped on this thing, I'd had my eyes on it for a while, but didn't have the cash. I paid a little more than I would have liked to, but its do damn cool and rare. Pretty decent condition for a 42 year old bike, turn signals, handlebars etc. are a bit mucked up, and the sparkly red, gold, and leopard vinyl seat is something else. Enjoy. Anybody post at the sundial suzuki two-stroke site? I've been trying to get an active account there and can't seem to get an admin to activate it. My last attempt was with the username kzoo. Help a brother out if you can, I know that's the place to get help with these.

I have had some luck with my obsessive craigslist trolling, but this was just dumb luck; randomly in a rural town for work and I see some guy selling antiques out of a storage unit, he had it pulled outside with a $1500 price tag on it. I had no money, but got his number, called a month later and talked a bit but still had no money, a month later he called me and wanted to make a deal. I went up with a trailer and came home with a gem. I'll keep y'all updated. I'd like to keep it, we'll see. I need to get my damn K0 running right so I can do some riding!

Got the carbs off and am going to get them cleaned, pretty nasty on the outside, and one was a bit nasty in the bowl/float area, but no too bad. I was a bit surprised to see a bent up throttle stop rod though. I was also kind of amazed at how big these things are compared to the Honda SOHC4 stuff I'm used to. Still no luck on the sundial forums, I'm kind of at a loss, maybe somebody could post a link to this thread over there to try and get my account approval some attention.

Put some work in recently, de-rusted the tank, got the carbs back together etc. and went to fire the bike up, turned on the key, and the horn would not stop honking. I unhooked the wires, and now, as soon as I turn on the key, it blows the main fuse. Any thoughts on where to start chasing this down?

Just curious what method you used to derust the tank?

no clue on your electrical problem. do you have an electrical diagram?

Used vinegar and let it sit for a week, worked great. But be very careful, I dripped some on the tank and actually ate a couple of pinholes through it. No wiring diagram unfortunately.

Good luck with sundial. I have tried several times to get back on that board with no success. The last time was four or five months back. I got an automatic response saying I was awaiting mod approval and that's the last I've heard.

I know some people don't like Kreem, but I kreemed my T500's tank and it has lasted 6 years.
