Leaky-faced oil pressure gauge?
« on: July 13, 2010, 08:22:29 AM »
I bought this gauge in March 2009 and it is now leaking the suspension oil from the gauge face itself. The gauge has never been hit or damaged; it appears the seal around the face is bad. Is this common?

What brand is the gauge?  I always thought glycerine was used in liquid-filled gauges, but I certainly could be wrong.

That's gotta be a manufacturing defect, shoddiness or just an old gauge.  Had mine for over three years with no leaks.

It's a Marshall, which i thought was a good brand :-\ The ebay store I bought from only has a year warranty, but stated Marshall might have a longer one. I still need to take a pic of it.

Skonnie-it's getting hotter. Just got back from NYC earlier this month and city hot SUCKS compared to Hill Country hot-at least there's a breeze here! How's it going for you?

My gauge leaked after 50 miles. It still works so I'm not worried about it. It doesent leek any oil.

Hot for CHI is 90º, which is nothing compared to Austin, as I recall.  But the traffic still makes me keep one eye on the oil pressure gauge.  City-hot, and gridlock-hot do indeed suck compared to Hill Country hot.  There is no Hill Country in Illinois, I do miss it so.  At least there's Wisconsin...

Marshall gauges are pretty good quality, so that's a shame. I bought some gauges for kits I was making from a US seller, and they'd spit the rubber plug outta the back, so I'd take the plugs out and seal them with some case sealant, and they'd be fine. The trouble with non-oil damped gauges is that they're actually air pressure gauges for air compressors and can't handle the violent pressure changes from blipping the throttle etc, (particularly when the oil is cold) and eventually the needles will fall off. Cheers, Terry.  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
