for some trackdays they allow you to ride with your headlight taped up.

Used to be that headlight had to be taped at races so a crash wouldn't leave broken glass on the track.

So, taping an X on your headlight turns it into a race bike.

For the street, it's all about looking cool.

Is it purely symbolic?  Doesn't seem like 2 strips of tape would do a hell of a lot for a shattered headlight.

Regardles on how effective it is it's required at most tracks.
When I was are one of the vintage auto races a guy had a gt350 Hertz that was black and gold.  He used gold colored contact paper.

actually it ends up working fairly well.... most the time it's in big bits.... not tiny....

We require it at Maxton and this year have gone to the point of requiring window tint on side and back windows for the same reason... ( they are tempered and shatter into a bazillion bits )

Not only that, but he's at most, six degrees of separation from other window tinters.

Perhaps in a past life.  My ancestors were in a different city getting bombed/shelled/starved at the time.  I did have a grandmother give me some tips related to that but nothing to do with taping up glass.
