Rims( please help)
« on: July 17, 2010, 12:36:35 AM »
I have a 1976 cb750F  i just got. I need some info. I like the look of the lester rims, but i have rear disk. I was told that kz 750 rims bolt right up to honda's rotors. My question is what year. Any other info. would be great. Thanks Andy!!!

Ill buy that pesky front caliper off you since you seem to be changing the bike up.  ;D

As far as your question ill let the pros answer I dont like the look of the lesters and have never thought about changing it over. Although I thought that the 77 and 78 cb750F both had rear disc brakes so find one of those?

I guess a better question may be what is the axle bolt size, or bearing size. Thanks for you help.

I doubt that the Kaw wheels will bolt to the Honda discs. Most Kaws (KZ) have 4 bolt brake discs, early ones have 6 bolt brake discs(pre 1975- LARGE Bolt pattern), some of the shaftys have 7 bolt brake discs and the GPZ style has even different discs.
Speedo drives(KZ vs.CB) are very different also. You may have better luck putting the whole KZ wheel (Which model, I don't know) on the CB but I would imagine there would/could be some machining involved.

Yamaha mags look a lot like Lesters, and are correct bolt pattern
for Handa 750 front 6 bolt discs.

Kawi LTD 1000 rear wheel take a disc with larger centre hole.. may be? close to Honda SS rear?

The disk brakes you are most likely talking about that look like Lesters are the rims from Kawasakis 750 LTD series.  The Kawasaki rims from the 750 Twins will not fit without heavy machining.  The 750 LTD series was produced in the late 70's to the early 80's.  What distinctive about the KZ750 was that it did have a front and rear disc brake while everyone else at the time was running front disc and rear drum.

The lester wheel can be pretty pricey.

The cb750f has a front and rear disk which they started doing in 1975. Not saying it was good, because it is severely underpowered and the drum brakes actually stopped you better then the rear disk, but that rear disk sure looks cool.

Kawasaki had it in 1974 one year before Honda started doing it.

I have made hubs for a few wheels, its never really cheap.

Any mag that you try to adapt will cost you a bit in machining adaptors, brake brackets, etc..

I'll agree with 754, it's always going to be time consuming and tedious.

It can be done, but not everyone will go to such lengths. Click the Swaps and Upgrades link in my signature line, some of the documents I've collected there will contain information you'll need. But every combination is different, expect the unexpected.
