I have been kicking around some ideas for the finish on some of the parts of my CB350 and CB450 twin projects. I have dealt with a bunch of NiTuff, Hardcoat anodizing, and black oxide finishes over the years at work but most of that is for wear resistance or corrosion resistance. We often do not care about cosmetics beyond smooth with no deep scratches as long as the part continues to function when drug from a mud pit in a desert in Iraq or the mountains of Afghanistan.

For my case covers, cam adjuster covers, points covers, ect. I would like to do something different besides the typical polish, painted black, or painted silver finish on things and I want contrast on the engine. I do not want everything to be the same color or some blend of silver/polished finish.

Right now I looking for ideas and particularly pictures of different finishes or preps. I am thinking in terms of anodized finishes over polish vs. brushed surface preps. Also alternate electroplating (Zinc/Cadnium/Cadmium/Nickle) type finishes over polished vs. brushed vs. bead blasted finishes.

More or less wanting to brainstorm some things here. Anyone have any experience on how brushed, polished, or blasted surface prep affects the finished product when some of the previously mentioned processes are done to them?
