ceramic front brake pads
« on: August 08, 2010, 01:06:53 AM »
so i did some research and experimenting and so far weeded out every possible solution to end my front brake scream without changing the pads and or cross drilling. Im trying to take the low budget route and get new pads (i have the ebc  non asbestos, organic ones from jc whitney) first and want to try out the ceramic ones. Does anybody know where i can get them for a cb750 k4? If not i think im just going to go with the sintered. Thanks!

I cross drilled and fitted new pucks . The new pucks screamed like crazy so much so that I was favoring the back brake . I put the pucks back that I had in before I drilled ( they were hardly used ) and SILENCE . I put a little silicone sealant behind the pucks before they went back in but these pucks were silent the first time I used them . I don't know what the noisy ones were but the silent ones are SBS pucks . I checked their site and our bikes are still listed in their application guide for 2010 . See if you can find them in your area .

P.S. they grip well too

rear pads on my 750f squeal something fierce...and the rotor is drilled.  I believe mine are EBC semi metallic pads.

I read the posts about squealing brakes. Some may disagree with me, but for the most part, stock brakes don't squeal. YOu shouldn't have to "do" anything to get them to stop. YOu shouldn't have to upgrade puck material (though that may be part of the problem, later) or cross drill, or stand on your head etc to get them to stop.

It was something that was "done" to them in the first place that make them squeal.

Your therapy should start from that perspective.

After being sure the surfaces are all very clean, store bot brake cleaner should do that, my suspicion is puck material. Our stainless steel discs are low on the totem pole for braking. I'm suspicious that ebc pucks are geared toward EBC rotors, which are much better. . I would downgrade, not upgrade, the puck material to the closest thing to stock to get rid of the squeal.

Or upgrade the rotor.
