we have little "butcher"birds that visit and some can be hand fed,one has been in the house and stolen the dogs biscuit,we have kookaburras here aswell and they never come near the house, theyll sit on the power pole and laugh, now, after ten years of being here a kooka has sat on the rocking chair where the butcher birds sit and i hand fed it some meat!its a baby one, these birds can eat snakes and grow quite big,i think its been watching and learnt?the racket these things make when a whole family laughs is unreal.

In my area of southern MN, we see a wide variety of wildlife regularly.
This past week while commuting I've seen:
2 Bald Eagles
1 Great Horned Owl
Many Red-tailed Hawks
2 American Kestrels
1 Red Fox
5 deer (two dead on the road)
Raccoons
1 Skunk
A possum
Red-winged blackbirds
Vultures
Chipmunks
1 albino squirrel
and
1 field mouse running across the road.

It's like Wild Kingdom around here!   :D

We see lots of deer in Cincinnati thanks to the numerous parks through out the city. This is a crappy cell phone pick through a window with screen, but we see them in the driveway regularly and I'm just a few miles from downtown.

Couple of new kids chillin in the backyard this morning;

They stuck around after we came out on the patio to take pics, someone nearby must be feeding them.

Haven't seen them since, they probably moved on so they wouldn't draw any more attention. This is a very populated area with a lot of small parks not far from down town, so I believe these animals know people better than those in remote areas. I hope anyway.
It sure is nice to see them occasionally, really takes the edge off of the urban sprawl.

I almost hit a deer last night, 4 miles from home
but I have never seen any on my property in 8 years.

...wonder if weekly target shooting has anything to do with it?
