Ok not so wierd but this lovely old DS250 (which I would definately give shed space to if I had the spare $$) ;D has an unusual feature.....chocolate fish to the first to spot it. ;D

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I thought that and was thrown by the right side drive chain.
Saying that, I don't recall that model coming into th UK, could be wrong.

No, all the early ones had left side kick start and right side chain.
I think that model was called YDS6 in the UK.
I think we are looking for sumat else ;D

That also went through my mind D but the tank badge is the right way round.
The chain and kick start changed sides with the model after it. YDS7 in the UK, the one before the RD

  Have to say that I have looked those pictures over, 2 or 3 times and I can't seem to notice anything. I DO wish the right side could be enlarged more, as it looks a little different around the footrest area, to me. Don't really know though. ???

Steering damper knob at steering stem?

'articulated' rear brake lever and cable operation?  That rear brake lever mechanism looks like it has two or three pivot point PLUS a cable that loops up and over the rear fender to the opposite side.

Not sure what other 'unusual' feature it has that is spot-able in a small photo...


*edit*  I clicked on the included link, and 4 or 5 large, detailed photos are available.  Cool bike, anyway.

Rigid-mounted footpegs?

Aw you guys are too good, lovely old bike I'd love to restore it as I have fond memories of this model as a teenager.
Yeah you got it, the chain is right side drive which I never noticed before, the left side kicker was quite common on this year as my Suzuki T3590 had a boot ripping lefty kicker.
I can't remember any other bikes in NZ that I have seen with right side drive, is this seen anywhere else on any other models?

My '82 Honda CR480 has right side drive chain, and left side kick starter; impossible to kick while sitting on it without smashing the boys!!! I kick it side-saddle, with my right foot, preferably with my left foot atop a milk crate.

Hmm so not that uncommon to have right side chain drive, I wrecked a few good pairs of boots left kicking my T350. :)

Lots of bikes in that period had right hand drive chain.
All the yamaha sports bikes up to the one you posted did.
The one you posted was called the YDS6 in the UK.
The model after it, the YDS7 looked like the first RD in the motor in the motor department but without the reed blocks.
Even Honda had some right side drive models in the Dream and Super Dream series.
These consisted of the C72 and C77 tourers and the CB72 and CB77 sports bikes.
If my memory is correct, the kick start on the sports models kicked forward, know THATS what you call unusual.

Let's see Sam, firstly it has to get through the NZPost system so that would put it somewhere in Jamaica or Antartica right about now, then it falls into the dubious hands of the British postal Service so I'll probably get it back via Iceland sometime around Christmas. ;D
