Dave500 makes a good point. It is significant that Progressive will insure vintage bikes for an "Agreed Value" and even makes provision for "Added Accessories". Other Ins co's may do the same.

Your bike wasn't "Just some old, used bike". It was really nice! You will likely have to push 'em but they should have to take this into consideration in any settlement.

Just arm yourself with the facts and stand your ground! Ins co's didn't become rich being nice to folks!

State Farm referred my claim to a specialist in Iowa who handles MN due to the complexities of dealing with my multiple vehicles (car, trailer, and MC). I found this person to very professional and knowledgeable and easy to work with. I was able to send him photos of the bike as well as links to ebay auctions and craigslist postings that i felt were relevent to determining market value of my bike.

The results-

1997 Subaru Legacy L wagon 206,000 miles
-totaled for $2,296 minus $300 salvage so I keep the car and $1,996 (still drives OK!)

Single axle utility trailer with one MC rail
-totaled for $535 they can keep the trailer it's not usable

1977 Honda CB550k 24,000 miles
-totaled for $2,158 minus $300 salvage i keep the bike and $1,858

I am lucky enough that my step-dad who is in IL has offered to pick the bike up for me (it's 2 hrs away from him as opposed to 8 hrs from me) and store it indefinitely. Eventually I hope to get it back from him and start putting the pieces back together.

I wanted to say thanks again for everyone's comments and sound advice you helped me out more than you know. I wish I could shake ya'lls hands...

Sounds like you came out of a crummy situation pretty good. I'm glad you got a fair shake from the insurance company. Still too bad you had to deal with them at all, though.

Well, it appears you didn't have to hassle with them and came out "decently" in your settlement. That is good, so long as you don't have to sign an "Injury Release". If you are satisfied, we are all happy for you while we still regret your accident. [I assume I can say this for the "Group".

Please watch, because some of their checks have an "Injury Release" ON THE CHECK/S! On any such check, when you endorse it, you have legally signed an "Injury Release".

As you know [and from my experience years back], back, neck, etc. injuries may not be apparent for some time after an accident. 'Hope you wont close that "door". For now, we all are grateful you do not appear to be injuried.

Good luck with repairing your bike.

Do the bike and car now have "Salvage Titles" ?

Nope, luckily here in MN they just let you keep your title from what I understand. Less hassle for me.

Gaither, thanks for the tip on the "injury release" i'll watch out for that.

Thanks again to all you guys for your kind words and helpful suggestions!

I was finally able to get down to to my step-dad's place in Illinois and pick up my bike about a month ago. After trolling ebay for parts for the past few months I was able to get just about everything I needed to get her going again. I found a painter here in town and had the tank repaired and painted/striped along with the sidecovers. He did a great job. If anyone in the twin cities area needs paint work done I would be happy to give you his info.

I think she's pert near ready to run but we're still waiting for spring here in Minneapolis. (note the lingering snowpiles) I was able to ride around the neighborhood for a little bit a few days ago and discovered a few issues I still need to work out. My petcock started leaking and I had a stuck open float valve. Also, the front end is still not straight even though I replaced the triple trees and the front wheel. I had to turn the bars slightly to the right to ride straight. Maybe new forks?

Hopefully, all will be right soon and I will be able to sign up and ride along with the Minnesota SOHC Rally crew. Go Godzilla!

Take care fellas!

I like the color you picked out.  You work pretty quick, I don't suppose having the bike in the dinning room had anything to do with it.  I happened to stop over a few weeks ago and there his bike was,  the centerpiece of the dinning room. ;)

Been hoping to stop by but have been over my head with work the last month.

First, congrats on getting her back and great job for all the work getting her almost road ready!!!! Major props and respect.

Do you have a straight edge you can check the fork tubes in case one is tweaked a little?

Nice recovery mate, I'm with Scunny on loosening the triple clamps and letting it all find it's own straightness, if that don't work then something IS bent. ;)

+10...looks awesome. You did well with the insurance company mainly because you did your research and had the paper to back it up. Glad to hear they took good care of you. You are chomping to get it out like I am here in WI. Winter has been way to long over here!!! Now they are talking about another storm the beginning of April. The pics look great!!!
