Bat out of hell Build
« on: September 03, 2010, 01:34:00 pm »
I plan on building a true "bat out of hell motorcycle" i.e. from the meatloaf album art. The build motorcycle is a 1980 yamaha xs 1100 special.

I realize this is primarily a Honda forum, I just finished a 1980 cm400t and am looking to build a bigger bike.  i didn't do a thread for my honda because it was just supposed to be a quick restore that ended with some nice exras.  I read a few threads and i like the constructive criticism that you guys give some i'm posting it here.  As for the horse skull i'm looking at using a cow skull, removing the horns and threading the handle bars through were the horns were. ebay has tons of skulls.  I would like to put the turn signals in the eye sockets and wire them so that they are always on (if that is not the default setup).

Man, what a great build idea.  I don't know what pipes you would use but just make sure it sounds like shxx....just like Meatloaf

Oh, that's cold.  I wish my bike sounded like Meatloaf's wail.  This idea is better than ten Super Bowls where all the teams win.

You should use extra bright LED lights for the idiot cluster, as well as some padding on the handlebars for any "paradise" you might create there.

thanks for the feedback.  Possibly the most important part of the bike arrived today the only problem is it stinks. :P I'm going to soak it in warm water for a couple weeks so it finishes decomposing before i do anything.  Hopefully soaking it will soften the plaster holding the horns in.

soak it in hydrogen peroxide. it will take the stink away and turn it nice and white. not the h2o2 that you get at the drug store get some at a beauty supply for bleaching hair. just look up bleaching skulls on google.

I plan on painting the skull black like the rest of the bike so i'm not too concerned about the color.  its just kinda hard to work on something when the smell is that bad :-X

boil it in a large pot it will help draw out the fatty oils that smell.

The frame is now completely stripped except for the triple T, which has laughed at my attempts to remove the spanner locknuts.  >:( The engine is now in my basement where i can work on polishing ect without worrying about rain or frame in the way.   :)

for those considering removing the engine block from the frame of an 1100 it is HEAVY :o i moved it with the help of a 2x4 a chain and my dad. I think the block outweighed us :) I found something big enough to soak the skull in, a wheelbarrow.
