I took apart the carbs to clean them, especially the pilot jet which was clogged to the max, and I put it back together, only to find that the bike turns over with pressure, but doesn't get warm.  The only thing I can think of remaining is that the spark plugs are fouled from my girlfriend running it with the choke open for our rides.  However, when I rode it the night I got the ticket, the bike seemed fine.

Choke open is the normal operating position when the engine is warm.

Is the kill switch in the "on" position?

You know what I mean on the choke, whether it is on or off doesn't seem to make a difference.  And yes, the kill switch is NOT on, otherwise the engine wouldn't even turn over.

I'm pretty sure its the spark plugs, but just wanted to see what anyone else thought because its very possible I missed something stupid.

Played with an old Kawsaki long time ago. It would ground out to the frame in some mystery place - we thought it was possessed until my friend hard wired the coil and it ran. Found the rotten wire a week later.

I just bought some new plugs so I'm gapping them right now and then I will see if I get any sparks....fingers crossed!!

If that doesn't work, I might have a mysterious cable that has come loose....yargh

LOL! I once installed the ground on my dad's tractor with a plastic washer underneath and one of those nylon locknuts! HAHAHA! That was a hell of a day. He was so pissed... then I figured it out and he made fun of me. DUH!

Oh yeah, spark plugs must have been defective cuz I just changed them a month ago.  They weren't fouled or anything, but they made teeny weeny sparks whereas the new ones were very visible.

Evening SUCCESS!!

Now, all I need is a way to remove the studs and shifter bearing and clutch to finish my cb750 streetfighter rebuild...

No I don't.  I can only go by what you type.  You'd be surprised how many people here get the operation of the choke backwards and try to either start their cold bike with the choke open or try to run it warm with the choke closed.

True, that would certainly not be so good.

Word, so my battery died rather abruptly last night, so tomorrow morning, between meetings, I have to bike ~30miles round trip to pick up a new one....

I must have been a super  bad person in a past life with all this karma I have.

Did you ever get anywhere with this??

Maybe the guy has a thing against "rice rockets"??

Once you get it running head down to the station with the bike and ticket in hand and ask to speak with the desk Sargent.  If he didn't use a decibel meter it will get thrown out in court anyways.  The "man" likely figures anyone would pay a $35.00 fine instead of going to court to fight it.

I once got a warning for the flowmaster  muffler on my CRX Si. When I asked another cop about it, he said the first one gave me a warning because he did not have a decibel meter on him, and they always get thrown out of court because some riceboy shows up with a lawyer who asks the cop to provide proof that the bike is too loud. If he did not have a decibel meter in hand and walked around your bike while you were revving it, how can he say it was too loud? Are his ears calibrated and certified?

There is your argument for dismissal. Whether you need a lawyer or not, I don't know, but I thought I would relate my experience so you can beat the chicken#$%* charge.

That is a good point.  I probably should have done that but I am a sucker for abiding by the law (military family, can't be helped).  I just photocopied the ticket and then sent it out to the clerk to file an appeal.  Gah, I wouldn't even consider my commuter ninja 250 as any sort of 'rocket'...but apparently it was louder than a harley.  Maybe I will stop by the campus police station, but its all about finding the time to do so...
