clutch adjustment
« on: September 12, 2010, 11:32:24 AM »
Just changed the oil and ordered a new chain and sprockets at 35000 miles.  Need help to adjust clutch.  The clutch disengages with very little travel of the clutch lever and while its not slipping I would like to adjust it.  currently the cable at the lever end has about 3/4 of an inch of threads showing and the end by the trnny has the threads all abovethe two nuts at  the bracket that holds the cable .  what di I do to adjust it?

Got a manual for your bike?  The clutch adjustment procedure is in it.  If you don't have a manual, go to the FAQ section and download one.

I had the same problem until recently I was determined to get the adjustment correct.  Got myself a manual and after two attempts got it so it's releasing about mid-pull. Much better.  Get youself a manual...

Tip:  adjusting the cable adjusters is the LAST step in adjusting the clutch.

Definitely download the Honda manual. I have both for my 550, and the Clymer often lacks some of the detail provided in the Honda manual. That said, the Clymer sometimes provides more info than the Honda manual in some areas, so I usually cross-reference both, as well as the general Honda repair manual, which can be found here:

Print off both the Honda manuals and get them bound at Kinko's for a few bucks. Best investment you'll make :)

Cheers.
