Difference betwix K and F frame?
« on: September 15, 2010, 12:53:17 PM »
Will K and F model frames interchange everything? I have a 73 complete bike w/ damaged frame and I'm planning on doing a frame swap (if I can find a frame or pos parts bike for sale).
Did you know ups ships bare frames w/o boxing? So, if anybody wants to sell or trade some parts let me know.

The F models have different frames from the tank to the rear. The sidecovers will not fit from a K model.

I have a spare K4 or K5 (can't remember) frame in decent shape. It came from a running bike that broke the cam. The title is to the motor so no title with the frame. I have shipped bare frames with UPS. We met a few years ago at Mid-Ohio...........Dennis from Wisconsin

What year F frame are you thinking of using?  I can only speak to the 77/78 frames, never seen a 75/76.

OS is right, the seat won't work either.  The k models had a triangular brace (not really a brace but...) welded on to the back of the frame for foot peg/exhaust mounts (well the 77/78's did).  Also some brackets on the brake side will be different as the F's are rear disk.  There's a mount for the master cylinder and the brake stay is in a different spot.

So it can be done, but there will be some work.

I think I have some pics...first two of a 78F, second set of a 78K

77/78 F frames have the sidestand mount moved up and back.. and I think they have less rake.. that could be a blessing or a pita..

Also probably about an inch longer where the rear fender mounts., their swingarms are a tad longer..
