Reviving a 77 550f
« on: September 19, 2010, 05:19:20 pm »
I've decided to make my brother's old 550f roadworthy again. I'm not sure how far I want to take the restoration, but I know it needs a new motor to run. What should I look for as far as a used engine goes? Will an engine from a K model work? I've got a line on a supposedly good one(12k miles, ran when parted out) for $200, but I have no idea what the going rate is, Does this price sound fair?

I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions as I continue the process, but this site has already been a tremendous help. Thanks to everyone!

Zach

That price seems fair. They all say that it ran well when parked though.

Yes, the motor is the same but the carbs and exhaust are differant. That may make a differance when you are trying to tune it, depending on what exhaust you use.
