71 cb750 carb trouble
« on: September 23, 2010, 12:44:36 PM »
i bought a 71 cb750 and i just bought 4 carb kits for it (needed new jets and seals) and i was wondering how you tune the carbs? im sure you adjust the air screw but what i was wondering is how to check to make sure that the air to fuel ratio and stuff is right?

depends on a lot of things.....like what type of air filter you are running, jet sizes you have, and exhaust, altitude...etc.
tell us more about what ya got!
if its all stock, put everything to stock settings(found in a clymer or shop manual)
what brand of carb kits did you purchase? why do you think
 your jets are bad?
carb tuning usually comes last.  rebuild it, clean it, yes, but the tuning comes after all other maintenance procedures have been completed when getting a bike running after a long nap.

Are your carbs dirty? Is that why you bought the kit?  You can go check out the carb section in FAQ first.

 Yep cleaning carbs comes first.

as far as air filter i have 4 of the cone type air filters. the jet sizes are stock (no idea where to get larger ones). at the moment i have straight pipes but im buying a 4 to 1 kit tomorrow. and i have no idea what altitude, im in st.louis missouri. i know the jets are getting clogged up. i already took the carb apart and cleaned it which helped out alot but the seals were toast. i bought the carb kit from parts n more

i would take a look at your gas tank.. whatever is clogging the carbs is coming from there..... put your finger in the tank and rub the inside of the top see how much rust is on it... i would drain the tank and try to make sure any loose grit is outta there.. if u have rust in the tank you must deal with it or keep dealing with clogged carbs.... an inline filter will alsohelp if its not too bad

I got pretty much the same set up. I think I got 125 main jet on mine and pilot is stock. Runs great.

As for the jets, I get mine from JetRus. Service is great, price is reasonable and give you a sticker.

Again, read the carb section in FAQ. It explains how you can tell rich or lean.
