Not bad!!!

Looking forward to seeing this mounted, looks like the shape of the seat works really well with the shape of the tank.

thanks guys! yeah Mystic, it flows with the tank shape very nicely.  I'm gonna do a walk around video with the bike back together once the weather clears up here, maybe in a couple days.

Looks amazing! You dd a great job. Just one question, with all that wood and screws, how heavy is it?

Thanks Tintop. I did do the paint as well.  It's hard to see in the pics, but I went with an off white for a more vintage look.  I did 3 base coats each color, 2 coats of the dark red pinstripe and 6-7 coats of clear. I decided to go with a cheaper gun(Home Depot) and spend more for quality paint. BMW Pepper White, DBC9700 Black and the Radiant Fire Red I had made in an aerosol. The clear is DC300.

Thanks a lot Freaky! I haven't weighed it yet, but I would guess somewhere around 10lbs-12lbs.  I went with the finishing ply because of it's weight. The metal base is aluminum.  There are 60 screws in the seat and they can't weight more than a 1/2lb at most.  The foam actually has a lot of weight to it when it sets, it is very dense and extremely strong.

How well will that hold up to the vibrations and the climate?   I would think you used alot of bondo to make it look so smooth.   I was just curious on how well it will hold up over time.  Never seen one built like that.

Great job!!

The seat is extremely solid as far as vibrations go.  Time will tell about the climates affect on the structural integrity.  I have never seen one of these seats completed before, however the seat is completely sealed from the elements and every piece adds to it's strength.  The 7 coats of clear gave it a durable shell.

Thanks to seven54 for the idea of the seat! I used his idea as a launching pad for my own.  Unfortunately he never came around to finishing his.  I went for a much beefier and durable construction. http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=7063.0

I don't see why not. They have a nice selection of styles on their site at http://www.harrisonspecialties.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=HS&Category_Code=L. They are a hidden gem as far as I'm concerned when it comes to LED lighting for bikes.  That's one hellava compliment to use my paint scheme! go for it dude. That was Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.

Great seat!! I tried to due a mock up with pink foam and k77. The foam cut well with table saw, but not so well with hand saw. A hack saw blade work pretty well.  I then thought about using a 2 part foam, and wood. Then bam I found your thread. Good luck with you build. Check out my build 1976 CB750F  hope to have a seat done the next week or so. Thanks for the tips and the links!!! ;D

That seat is awesome. Why didn't I think of that. I work in a top end cabinet factory in a department called special parts. We make cabinets that can not be built on a assembly line, all from start to finish. I have been working there over half my life. Great job!
