what is the fair value of cb750 hm431 pipes ?
« on: March 07, 2006, 09:43:43 AM »
my first post here ..

i bought a 75 cb750 K  that has  a set of the HM341 pipes on it that are pristine.. no scuffs or scratches , no rust , nothing.

several people have emailed me who are intrested in buying these pipes , and i just dont know what they are worth or what a fair price for them would be. i dont want to get ripped off , but i dont want to bend anybody over a rail with some ridiculous price either.

the pipes and seat are so clean that i considered doing a restoration on the bike.. but the rest of the bike isnt in that great of shape, and has been titled as having " non - orginal miles"

now im not 100% positive , but wouldnt that pretty much exclude this bike from being a candidate for a ground up restoration?

so im considering parting out the pipes and seat and using the bike as a cafe project , or even as a donor for a chopper build with a amen saviour frame i have here from the early seventies..

if you guys could let me know what a fair price range would be for the pipes and seat , i would appreciate it!
thanks for your time fellas , Al

Though not an auction, this could give you some idea as to what someone is expecting for a new, NOS set...

A set can go from $200 or so up to $550 for a decent used set. Bob showed what a new set from Honda goes for. I've bought 4 sets off of eBay and you are sort of at the mercy of how forthwith the seller is. One set I bought is rife with holes and lousy chrome, the other the head pipes are too rusty to come back, but the other two sets were exactly as advertised and in very good shape. I got one set for $350 and it has a few small dings in the lower right pipe. The other set was $400 and are near perfect. I had the same luck trying to get a stock exhaust for a CB750F3 - two pipes came and were complete garbage.
So if there are no holes or rust nor any dents and look like a new set from the outside anyway and are complete with heat shields and connectors - $350-$500 isn't unheard of.

even tho the mileage isnt correct, that doesnt preclude a restoration.many cars have been restored without the correct mileage being known.shoot after a restoration the mileage is zero anyway.i say if you want to restore it,go for it.

The LAST thing I look at when I buy a bike is the mileage. Cables break, gauges get smashed and replaced. Have seen 6k mile bikes that are junk, 40k mile bikes that run like watches. Mileage descprency is not as big a deal as with a car.

Are people that STOOPID that they would pay this?  This is about 150 more than the local honda dealer
charges fresh from the warehouse.

They're still available.  I paid 1050 for my set a year ago.

Now...if they were 350F...I could see...due to the rarity (capitalism at its best, right?)...but for something that
is still current in the parts manual and on the shelf at the distribution centers?

Sheesh...

I'm cheap. I bought a spare set of like-new HM341 pipes for $60 about ten years ago, along with 1970 CB750 tank, side covers with emblems and the original instrument sets for total of $220. Oh, and they threw in an disassembled engine and a complete rolling frame. It was a win-win situation for us since they were an elderly couple that just wanted to get rid of them and I need the parts desperately. I also bought a complete set of Z1 exhausts (with one small 1/4" dent at the bottom) for $100, and since it was located in Las Vegas, it was rust free.
Your HM341s should sell for over $200 a set, not including shipping but it'll be more valuable if you can mount it on a stock CB750K2 or later models . (1969-1971 CB750-CB750K1s had HM300s but I've seen most of the restored ones with the incorrect HM341s)
