Carb gasket kits, complete?
« on: October 05, 2010, 07:30:57 PM »
Hey guys just wondering what the final word is on these kits. I've been reading up here for a couple days and getting some great tips. Just want to know where I can order a complete kit so I can tare these carbs apart once and make sure I hav everything I need in front of me from the start. It sounds like some of the kits don't come with all the gaskets and rings needed or is it just that some people are not looking for complete sets just some parts and not others? I think I've worked up the gumption to rebuild one of these and wanna make sure I hav what I need to do it right. Thanks 1974 cb750 k4

My keyster kit had everything in it I needed. I did have to get some fuel injection o-rings to go in the fuel delivery T between the carbs.

Z1 enterprise has a good selection. But they don't have ones for my 78 F2

All the K4 should need is:

4 bowl gaskets.
8 O-rings for the fuel tees, 7.9x1.9mm minimum, 8x2mm OK.
A 26mm float gage (made one from cardboard).
A razor blade to clear off the tiny burrs on the insides of the float support arms, so they won't overflow on the sidestand and leak again, later.  ;)

These carbs don't wear out, except for the occasional corroded float valve if the carbs sit dry too long. If you use Keyster float valves, try setting the floats at 25mm or 24mm instead of 26mm, as their springs are too stiff and the float level ends up being too low as the result.

This year alone, I've refurbished 5 sets of 7A and 657 carbs: none have needed anything more than mentioned above, except a few needed to have the jets drilled back out (with proper size drill bits) to clear the corrosion inside. They all worked fine afterward.
