I just picked up a running 77 hondamatic on friday for a great winter project.  It's a hideous beast to say the least right now.  In a afternoon's time it lost a little weight.

It's going to be great winter project as I'm working on it with my girlfriend's oldest boy.  Could be a learning process for both of us.

I've been lurking for a little bit to get some ideas from all great builds on this site.  So I think I will draw some styling cues from different projects.  I hope you guys and gals don't mind.

Here's a link to all the pics so far.  Enjoy the before pics of the beast!

I got a little bit more accomplished tonite.  Making a parts list for what it will need and it seems to be getting longer and longer. Oh well I figure I'm going to do it right the first time so I can enjoy riding it next spring instead of fixing little things

I had to take a cold chisel to get the oil filter bolt.  Couple good whacks and it was free.  It is the only bolt that has fought me so far on dis-assembly.

Well I got the motor out of the frame tonight. By myself.....That thing is HEAVY!!!! haha.  Well I have 3 gallons of simple green and a few brushes.  Saturday will be fun fun.  Scrubbing 33 years of sludge off the motor and frame.

I have the colors picked out and have the hook up on some PPG paint already mixed and in a spray can.  Dark gray Metallic for the frame and Salsa red metallic for the tank and headlight bucket.  That will be a few weeks away

Will do. I just keep the camera in the garage as kind of a reminder.  I figure more is better than less when assembly time comes around in a few months.

I have been cutting and grinding on the frame all day .  Removing unused brackets and things.  Got the motor through the first stage of degreasing.  Opened the oil pan to do a little cleaning.  I thought the oil screen was pretty clean for 33 years.  Just a little crud and a small amount of metal.  Will post pics to the album later tonight

A little update on the hondamatic.  I just got my rear hoop roughly welded on.  A lot of finish grinding to get i just so, but I think it turned out good.  Used some 3/4 inch black iron gas pipe we had laying around at the shop.  Whatever works I guess.

Also got the tank stripped and ready for primer too.

The forks I let marinade in some simple green for couple days.  The grease build up from leaking fork seals was crazy!  There was some gray goo with chunks inside when I got them apart too.

The fork seals were stuck so I used the mini C clamp trick and it worked like a charm!

I soaked the air box boots apparently a little too long and they had a small case of elephantiasis.  Just a little swelled but very soft.  I promptly put the clamps back on and let them sit.

More to come this weekend.  I have a ton of parts and pieces coming for the beast.

New pics!!!!!

Drilling the rotor tonite after work.  My friend had a vertical lathe with a degree turntable underneath it!  Cost me bottle of Captain Morgan!  I'll get some pics up tomorrow of the drilling

No drilling tonite has to work late so my friend's shop was closed so I decided to work in the garage. Got the forks rebuilt with new seals and fluid.

Removed the old cracked front tire off the rim and started to degrease the front hub and rim.  Degreased the rear hub and brake assembly and got it ready for the new brake shoes.  It's the little stuff that takes so long.

Tonight I got the rotor drilled on his vertical lathe.  54 holes took 35 mins to do!  It worked amazing!

I also go the battery/electric box fabbed up too.  I got it angled with the frame and I hope I can get everything stuffed in there.

Started polishing the valve cover.

Finally getting some parts arriving too. It's like xmas in october!

Pictures are posted in the link.

Got the seat ready for upholstery this weekend.  The old man and I built a seat pan and used some of the original foam to make a slightly stepped seat.  There's an older lady that does upholstery in my home town.  She quoted me $30!! Have at  it i told her.  It will be done by next weekend.

Also got all the new gaskets and seals put in the motor. Adjusted the valves too.  Then I finally got it painted.  It turned out pretty good.  It looks a million times better than when I got it.

Painting the frame and other parts today!  I have my redneck paint booth set up in my garage.  It's working quite well.  I'll get pic uploaded to the album tonite after I come down from the paint fumes. haha

Well I didnt get all my painting done today. Just ran out of time.  I got all the gray metallic parts done and the headlight bucket finished in red.  It will be the tank color also.  My air exchange system work pretty good.

Got the new front tire today in the mail.  I got it spooned on tonight and as luck would have it, I didn't even pop the tube in the process.  Should have the bike into full roller mode by Saturday afternoon.  I'm going to recruit a few strong backs and weak minded friends to help with the motor and frame joining.

Your spray booth and air-exchange look just like my brother-in-law's garage..........A custom auto should be in everyone's garage.

The custom spray booth worked very well actually.  I was surprised.  Borrowed all the box fans from work and lined them up.

I will be getting photos up hopefully tomorrow after i get the motor in and the running gear on.

I got the motor back into the frame this weekend.  A couple obligatory scratches on the frame and motor was to be expected.  All in all it was a success.  I got the running gear on also.  It kinda looks like a bike again!

The light tabs I purchased are too short and narrow for my light.  Does anyone have any suggestions besides just buying new ones.  I was thinking of making up some extensions.

94!!! that would put a smile on your face.  My pocketbook isn't that deep. haha

Got a few things done on the bike.  Got all my led gauge lights in and functioning.  Painted the black rings and scrubbed up the chrome ones.  They turned out pretty good.

Also got my carbs all torn apart cleaned and put back together.  I lucked out.  They were in pretty good shape to begin with.

Well today was a good day.  Got the carbs on and also the controls.

Put the headers on and the homemade silencers.  I made them out of 1/1/4 copper water pipe.  Kind of a test to see how they work.

Got the chain put on and the guard too.

It's starting to look like a bike again.

Now for the wiring.  I'm eliminating the unused wires so I can wedge all of the electricals under the seat.  Fingers crossed for enough room.
