1974 CB750 Psuedo Bobber Super broke build.
« on: October 11, 2010, 10:01:08 AM »
Hey guys, I think my thread title correctly correctly describes what I am going for. I started working on it almost two years ago but after moving and not having a garage the project has been put up for a long time. Fast forward to today and I now have the time, but not really the funds to get it running so hence the super broke build part. Theyre will be a few things I purchase for this, but it is going to be more bare bones than anything else.

First what I started with, this is my 74 and the picture from the craigslist ad. It did not come with the shoes, but it did come with a 77 750 roller with a seized motor I got to use parts from. I stripped it and am using the longer swingarm from the 77 and the front end (dual disc). I am also using the 16" rear wheel from the 74.

This is pretty much how it sits right now, I am wrapping the exhuast this week and switching the bars out. I thought I wanted apes a couple years ago, but have since changed my mind and will be using some small z bars as well. Thats about it for now, just wanted to share my first build (and first real motorcycle ive had) My last bike was a ct70 when I was 13 so I will be taking the safety course soon enough.

How would the bike be to ride, with tall bars like that?

and have you lowered the rear Shocks ?

I am not going to be using those bars so I'm not really worried how it would ride. Going to use some small z bars instead. As for the rear shocks, yes they are the shortest ones I could order from cycle x I just don't remember the exact length since I ordered them almost two years ago.

Sweet, make sure to get some pictures of your bike as well.

Other than that I ordered my new bars and should be getting the exhaust done by the weekend.

Made a little progress, removed the apes and ordered some much more mellow 6" t bars. I know its still kinda big but being 6'4" it will fit me quite will. I got the exhaust off the 77 and wrapped and put on but that #$%* is loose still so I'll need to check out the clamps and make sure I put those "thingys" inside the right way.

Also moved the oil tank over from the 77 and will have to ghetto rig some mounts for it. All in all, looking a little better. Some cam phone art filter to hide the ratness. Yeah buddy!

uh oh, can somebody chime in and let me know if i need to come up with something else

I was looking into why my exhaust is loose and came across this thread

Currently I am using all the clamps/pipes/insert things off a 77 and bolting them to the head of my 74. Is this the cause of my problem? What do I need to do to remedy this?
