« on: October 18, 2010, 09:17:30 PM »
Hello All,

I have recently found this forum and would like to introduce myself.

I race (some would say circulate) a CB500 mostly in New South Wales, Australia.

Have had the bike for 4 years and really enjoy it.

Anyway hope my attached picture works. Taken at Eastern Creek, Sydney 2009.

Robert

Thanks for the welcome.

Sorry for not answering earlier, but I only access the web at work, when I have time.

Talking about the bike the wrong way round, it unfortunately was 3 weeks ago with resulting damage. So I will not be posting current pictures :D. Lets say it is being worked on at the moment. Tank flying off, exhaust scratched, etc. Oh, and ankle broken :D.

This was a a race meeting at a track called Broadford in Victoria. She wasn't running well that day, with the motor cutting in and out in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. Not sure if it was petrol or electrics. Changed petrol (I run Avgas), looked at lines, plugs, battery after every session. Worked fine in fourth so I was running fourth the whole lap and was just trying to keep corner speed up too much = low side.

Maybe you guys have an idea what might be wrong?

Robert

Hi Rob are you taking your bike to the Island Classic in 2011, we were there last year and had a great time.
Again we are bringing our 500/4s with us, shipping them from the UK. I think Bear was there in January but im not sure.
If you do go we are in the UK pits and would love a yarn with you.
All the best...
Col Stockdale, DaveMartin and Frank Lemstra.

Hmm, TT passenger. You obviously have a pair of very big goollies.
Looking forword to catching up in January.
Unfortunately I'll be there as a spectator.
I put Pat through the kitty litter going onto Gardner Straight and stuffed his back pretty badly.

Cheers,
Brian

No, it wasn't crash corner. It was first corner after the start/finish straight, going up the hill. Just trying to keep momerntum up.

I was hoping to get a second eligible bike before I go to the Island Classic.

I will be doing the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed at Eastern Creek, Sydney instead. Thats first week of April 2011.

Hello,

Just a quick question.

I currently have a 1.85 x 18 rim on the front with a Continental TKV11 90/90-18 fitted. I need to replace it. What would be your suggestions. We have to race with treaded tyres in Oz so no slicks.

On the rear I run a 2.5 x 18 with a Battlax BT45 R 120/90-18 fitted. Any suggestion there?

Thanks in advance.

Robert

Dont think you can find 18" slicks these days even if you wanted....

I run (and think that howell does too) Avon AM19 90/90-18 front, AM23 130/650-18 rear, both in racing compound of course. There is also a 120/80 AM23. Pretty much standard racer setup around here, pricey but super grip and you will also loose quite a bit of weight compared to road based tires like you are using.

Taking to a conti rep lately, he thought that by using two Roadattack II tires, a cheap and interesting combination could be tried - a 110/80-18 at the front + a 120/80-18  front at the rear.

These are very modern radials that essentailly have a slick border. might be worth trying.

Any chance of you detailing bike setup modifcations. I'm building a 550/600 racer and all references are welcome.
I'm still reading all the other 500 and 550 racer builds, but like they say, Information is power. So give me more :)
