Oh, while on the topic of recycling parts in the CB750 community, I am going to get some clip on and getting rid of the clubmans.
Anyone looking for some very slightly used clubmans?

I got them from the local vintage shop in San Diego: Trophy Motorcycles. Don't really know where he got them. They are 7/8" diameter.

I paid $30 for them new, I think. I have only put about 10-15miles on the bike with them on there, so they are pretty new. Not sure if they would be worth it to ship to Texas. Make me an offer and we'll see what the shipping would be.

Jetting update: I got the bike running pretty well and got to ride around. Did a little freeway run.

I still have some work to do. There is a weird stumble right off idle. Acts like one cylinder is totally leaned out but goes away at about 1/8th throttle. If I take off from a stop like it's a two-stroke, it's fine. Make leaving a stop light kinda PITA. I have the air screws at about 1.25 turns out. The plugs look good: nice tan color and dry.

There is whole in the very top end. It's fine from about 1/8th throttle to about 7/8ths If I take it easy on the freeway it's fine, but if I go WOT, it falls on it's face. My guy says my mains are too lean?

I've got a 120 main in there now and I have air filter pods and a 4 into 1 exhaust from Steve Carpenter http://www.cb750cafe.com/parts.php?id=70 and a dyna ignition. I have a set of 125 and 130 main jets that I might try. Anybody here have any insight or can tell me if I am on the right track?

I might just take this bike to my local race shop and do a dyno run. That should get me clear picture of what's going on.

Funny thing is, the bike handles just fine on the freeway. Nice and stable with out a huge amount of effort to turn it in.
Apparently the previous owner put a Suzuki swing arm to lower the bike (by lengthening the swing arm).

Well, funny you should say that. I am going to replace all of those bits with some SS braided lines this week. They will be free and looking for a new home.
Interested?
Not sure what the shipping to BC would be, but I can't imagine it would be that much.

Thanks,

What parts are you coveting?

Welcome.
I see some parts on your front brakes I need ;D

The 2 short cross over caliper brake lines and fittings.  :)
I'm doing a winter GS1100 fix-it/resto this year and mine are missing.

CB750 Taillight project.

I started my first custom project on the CB: A reasonable taillight.

The taillight on there just seemed kinda lame to me.

I was planning on using a road racer seat from Carpy's website

http://www.cb750cafe.com/photo.php?photo=upload/photos2/907_0.jpg&folder=photos2

I really like the clean lines of it and didn't want to disturb that with a traditional looking light.

I've seen the LED taillights they use on Le Mans LM2 prototype (Can't find a picture of said lights to save my life).

The bike is already a cludge fest with the '83ish GS850 front end and GS-ish rear end, so I've kinda given up the "all original" cafe racer idea.

The idea was a wrap around light fixture that is roughly shaped like a horse shoe that is mounted right at the lower edge of the racer seat. I was planning on using the LED light strips from Oznium...http://www.oznium.com/led-flex-strips
They are water proof, flexible, pretty darn bright and fairly cheap.

I used a piece of C-channel extruded aluminum as the fixture backbone, cut some slots so I can bend it in the right shape.

Here is the fixture before the light strips are installed. The seat is ugly and this will be all different with the racer seat.

The arrangement of the lights was going to be like this:
Three rows:
Top Row: one big long strip (about 18" loing) of red
Middle Row: Right and left quarter: Orange turn signal strip (around 5" each)
Middle half: brake light strip (around 9")
Lower Row: Outer 1/3rd: orange turn signal strip (around 7" each)
Middle 1/3rd brake light strip (around 7" each)

In the following pics, I only had part of all the strips I needed. I'll take some pics when I get home.

  Just the running lights

  Running lights plus brake light.

Running light plus right turn signal

Obviously it will look a lot better with the seat on there (and get rid of that lavender abomination)

Finally got the cafe racer seat mounted. I had to get a little creative with the attachment. The PO went completely off the reservation with that Lavender Abomination Seat and so I don't have the hinge pieces to attach to the seat. I ended up using some 1"x1"x1/8" thick aluminum C-channel to work as my hinge/seat brackets. They allow me to create a new hinge and to suppot the seat properly and gives me a place to attach the seat latch pin.

There seems to be a lot of wasted space under the seat and the hump. I might try and fabricate a storage space that has a latch of some sort.

I also sanded that f-ugly tank and shot it with some flat black rattle-can special paint

Before:

After (including the cylon taillight):

I used some 1.5" polyurathane foam for an interim seat till I get my custom seat made. I am thinking of doing a dark, maroon-ish seat cover material and then do the bike in matte black and red. Maybe paint the calipers red.

Anyway, rode around with the new seat. Lordy, lordy that is much more comfortable than the LA (Lavender Abomination). No longer are the juevos getting bashed around by that God-awful seat.

It's getting there. Rode it to work today so I can get it registered. Thought they were going to have to double check all the numbers.

Just took my money and gave me a sticker. Schweet!

The engine is running pretty good. There is still a slight stumble right off of idle. I wonder if that is the pods. I am waiting eagerly for TinTop's fancy air filter assembly.

Sorry about the lavender. Can you imagine being in it's presence? It's kept me up at night. When I got the new seat on, I didn't wait one second to throw away that old seat.

Just ordered some Woodcraft clip-ons. They should look purdy on there.

Just got my SS braided lines yesterday.

Should help a lot. I can get rid of that inline brake light pressure switch. I can feel it sucking up lever travel.

As some point soon, I want to get this...

New brake lines are in. I got rid of the pressure operated brake light switch, also.

Wow! What a difference that made!!!! Before, I had to use four fingers to get any real stopping action, now it's two. I might still get another MC, possibly a Brembo. I also found some new Brembo Calipers that apparently wound up on some vintage Italian Bikes. I am going to investigate if they will work on the Suzuki front end.

I got my clip-ons last week. I wanted to see if I could make the existing headlight ears work, but it would have taken a lot of bending and they were a POS, anyway.

I got some nice cast aluminum pieces from Dime City Motors in Florida. They were cheap ($35/pair) and they look good.

Everything fit pretty well and it's all together now. They are much narrower than the clubmans, but they feel fine.
